79th min Shocking kick Gale. He’s cost them any chance with his short kicking.

That looked like a play straight out of the 2017 Raiders playbook!
Re: 2017 World Cup Final: Teams and Game Day
I know people love Roby but Hodgo was probably the one player who could put points on against Australia. Great game by Whitehead and a good effort by the Poms.
Australia too good and another win for Bellamy Ball. Hopefully it will die one day.

Anyone who questions if we have world class players at the Raiders needs to consider Whitehead.
I thought he was outstanding tonight.

Boyd Cordner man of the match.
That’s all we have for tonight and for this World Cup. Thanks for following us in what’s been a great tournament!

He was put on his feet for the last ten minutes but just kept putting in. When was the last time you saw an edge forward make 50+ tackles?Johno wrote:RTW wrote:Anyone who questions if we have world class players at the Raiders needs to consider Whitehead.

Re: 2017 World Cup Final: Teams and Game Day
Yeah, from the parts I was watching Elliott Whitehead had a terrific game.
Whilst Australia won the World Cup, they should be looking hard at themselves for that World Cup final result of winning by 6. The 3rd best available Australian team would still be expected to beat England really.

The thing is the 3rd best team probably wouldve won that game 6 nill. The structure Australia play is near unbeatable for other teams under the current rule interpretations.Sid wrote:Yeah, from the parts I was watching Elliott Whitehead had a terrific game.

England half back had a shocker and roby was meh, is it unfair to say that josh Hodgson would have at least made that an extra time game?

Roby looks dangerous with his darts out of dummy half. As for play making he's got nothing Hodgo.CJ42 wrote:England half back had a shocker and roby was meh, is it unfair to say that josh Hodgson would have at least made that an extra time game?

Elliott Whitehead Nine runs for 67 metres, 52 tackles. Also suggesting five missed tackles. Can’t remember any.
Re: 2017 World Cup Final: Teams and Game Day
Tough, hard, rugby league. I loved it. Whitehead was a standout for the Poms, although the Ref told him to get back in his box following the Morgan 'no try'. Cordner was a worthy MOTM. Some unusual errors from players who usually don't make such errors - Smith and Widdop. But that is what consistent defensive pressure can produce. Well done Australia. To keep the Poms to nil in a final says it all about the defensive application of the side and coaches.

Australia edge England in World Cup final
The Australian Kangaroos have achieved what no team has done in 40 years, winning a World Cup on home soil with a hard-fought 6-0 defeat of England at Brisbane Stadium on Saturday night.
In many ways it was a night of redemption for Australia who famously failed to achieve the same feat in 2008 when they were handed a shock loss by the New Zealand Kiwis at the same venue.
Nine years later it is a very different Kangaroos side, with only Cameron Smith and Billy Slater the remaining players, and ask either of them why the result was different this time around and they will tell you the same thing – Australia's defence.
Australia 6 (Cordner try, Smith conversion) defeated England 0

RLWC 2017: Cameron Smith says NRL season has to be cut back for internationals to thrive
KANGAROOS skipper Cameron Smith wants more international rugby league, but admits the only way it’ll happen is to shorten the NRL season.
Smith believes the success of the Rugby League World Cup has whet the appetite for more Test matches in the future, particularly among the emerging nations.

It was a great Final I was quite surprised, good tough footy. One for the purists of the game.
I’m still filthy this tournament has cost us our best player for 2018.
I like that McGilvrey for England, he reminds me of Ken Nagas gliding across the field. As I’ve said I wouldn’t mind if BJ was let go and Cotric to Centre and McGilvrey on the wing.

RLWC 2017: Billy Slater hints final success over England will likely be Kangaroos swan song
TWO thirds of the Big Three may not be sighted for Australia again after Billy Slater gave his strongest hint yet that he would follow Cooper Cronk’s lead and retire from representative football.
Halfback Cronk dropped the bombshell that he would walk away from rep footy after Australia’s 6-0 Rugby League World Cup final win over England in Brisbane on Saturday night.

Maroons and Kangaroos great Cooper Cronk retires from all representative rugby league following Australia’s World Cup win
KANGAROOS halfback Cooper Cronk has dropped a World Cup-winning bombshell by announcing his retirement from representative football.
Just an hour after leading the Kangaroos to a 6-0 defeat of England in the World Cup final, Cronk revealed he would walk away from Queensland and Australia to focus solely on his new club the Roosters next season.

Respect to Cronk for announcing his rep retirement after his final game. Shows that he is not interested in the theatre of a big farewell, just wanted to concentrate on the job of winning another trophy. A true professional.

Graham won't apologise for verbal spray
England prop James Graham has defended himself after a verbal attack on an Australian player was picked up on the broadcast microphones in the World Cup final.
“Loads of stuff gets said on the field. If you don't like it turn off the ref mics,” Graham said.
“That's real life, real emotion out there. Stuff gets said all the time. Just because you pick it up ... you want to fake a reality? You want people to pat each other on the back? It is what it is. It's just the game.”

Not a bad result, considering competition from the Ashes and the match was not on the primary channel in Adelaide and Perth.
Outrated every session of the cricket in the metros, and when head to head nationally.
Incidentally, the Origin III match, with 3.705 million viewers was the No. 1 TV program of the year. The three Origins and NRL Grand Final in the top 10 TV programs of the year.

Second row: Elliott Whitehead (England)
The former Bradford and Catalans Dragons forward is clearly benefiting from his stint in the NRL and England were also the beneficiaries as he produced another prodigious 80-minute defensive stint in the final, taking his total number of tackles to 209, the highest in the World Cup.
