25th min TRY AUSTRALIA to Valentine Holmes, his second for the night. It’s just quick hands in the back line. Cameron Smith fails to convert.

Australia 16-2

32nd min TRY AUSTRALIA to Dane Gagai. If you come out of the line like that, you MUST make the tackle. Simple in the end. Cameron Smith converts from close to the posts. Just as well Fiji scored two early. Can’t see them troubling the scoreboard attendants again.

Australia 22-2

Now Fiji get it back from the kick off!

The pricing of tickets for this World Cup yet again must come in for criticism. The upper two tiers at the southern end are virtually full, while the inner bowl is virtually empty in the same spot.

Sellout crowd in NZ tomorrow suggests otherwise
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Vunivalu couldn't catch him which was surprising

52nd min TRY AUSTRALIA to Valentine Holmes, his fourth tonight. Far too easy. Fiji totally outclassed. 10 tries to Holmes equals the record for most tries in a single World Cup tournament. Converted Smith.

76th min Vunivalu nearly scores but it is spilled! Now Australia go the length.

TRY AUSTRALIA to Valentine Holmes. His sixth this evening, 12 for the tournament. Cameron Smith can’t convert from the sideline.

Australia 54-6

FULL TIME

Valentine Holmes breaks the record set by Wendell Sailor for most tries in a single World Cup tournament.

That’s all we have for tonight! Thanks for following!

The crowd counts at this World Cup have been beyond a joke.

Over 6000 at the Canberra game between Italy and Fiji was an outrageous claim of creative accountancy.

The two main grandstands had less than 200 people, whole bays were totally empty, and the side stands were only a quarter full.

No way the Australia France game was a half full Bruce stadium and The stands tonight were very very empty.

My food vendor mate at Bruce stadium said he only sold $500 bucks worth.

The Asian Cup Soccer a few years ago had accurate crowd counts and the stadiums were pretty full.

According to World Cup Rugby League crowd counts, there was only 6000 more people at Bruce watching Iran/Iraq than watched Australia/France a few weeks ago.

Check the footage and tell me what you think.

I remember that Asian cup game well the atmosphere was nuts

Only difference was there were no corporate boxes sold for it, so that may factor into the numbers

Other than the usual 'Dugan injury' I thought he played well tonight both in attack and defence. Cam Smith gets MOTM but 6 tries to Holmes was outstanding. The Australians defence took a lot of the sting out of Fijian confidence imo. Australia through to the Final as expected against either England or Tonga. Go Tonga tomorrow.
