67th min TRY ENGLAND to centre John Bateman. They’re checking for obstruction but there is none. TRY.

England 20-0

Has England secured a place in the World Cup for the first time in 22 years? Most unexpected that Tonga has not scored so far.

73rd min TRY TONGA to Tevita Pangai Jnr. He just bulldozed to the line. Going to video... it’s short to start... maybe it’s been lost? No, the video referee says TRY. Converted.

FULL TIME

This is where the game is flawed, once again a game is decided by a controversial refs call.

When does it stop?

Kudos to Tonga and more kudos to their amazing fans.

Ive been to Wembley 3 times and I don't think I have seen such incredible fans.

Albeit on TV but just wow, that singing during the match.

Any one there from the forum? Give us some feedback !!!!

Needs to be some onus on the ball carrier . Reckon Checcin made the right call there whitehead forced the ball out but it was more in the action of making a tackle rather than an intentional strip

Tongan comeback falls just short

England have dodged a bullet in the shape of a brilliant late comeback from Tonga to scrape into the Rugby League World Cup final with a 20-18 victory in Saturday's semi-final in Auckland.

Trailing 20-0 with eight minutes remaining, Tonga produced an incredible comeback to score three tries in five minutes, and were denied a fourth on the final siren, to fall agonisingly short of booking an historic World Cup Final berth.

England 20 (Jermaine McGillvary, Gareth Widdop, John Bateman tries; Gareth Widdop 4 goals) def. Tonga 18 (Tevita Pangai Junior, Siliva Havili, Tuimoala Lolohea tries; Sio Siua Taukeiaho 3 goals) at Mount Smart Stadium. Half time: England 12-0. Crowd: 30,003.

I just saw the replay. If they ever start calling that a try I'll give up watching rugby league.

Yeah I am definitely in the no try camp.

You have to feel for Checcin, Refs are damned if the do and damned if they don’t. Big cal to not go to the video Ref but he got it correct so deserves a pat on the back.

Canberra Raiders hooker Josh Hodgson an injury doubt for RLWC 2017 final

England will almost certainly go into the Rugby League World Cup final without hooker Josh Hodgson. The Canberra Raiders star departed England's 20-18 semi-final win over Tonga on Saturday with a knee injury after just 23 minutes.

"I'm not sure what's going on there," Bennett said. "I don't think he'll be right to play next week. You don't normally limp off like that and play next week."

Completely agree, everyone’s just blowing up because they wanted to see Tonga make the final. I’ve got no doubt if it was England scoring to win that game the same way no would give a hoot.

I agree, clearly correct call.

The ball came free during a tackle. It wasn’t like Whitehead came in trying to reef the ball out.

So the World Cup will end with the same two teams it began with. What a ride it has been for Tonga. Very entertaining side. A few 50/50 calls went against them but I think the ref got the calls right. Any news on Hodgo?

2nd min TRY NEW ZEALAND to centre Maitua Feterika. The Kiwi Ferns just shift it left and there’s an easy overlap. Georgia Hale fails to convert.

6th min TRY NEW ZEALAND to centre Shontelle Woodman. England really struggling here... the Kiwi Ferns recovered the ball from their own line drop out and went 80 metres to score in one set. No conversion.

20th min TRY NEW ZEALAND to Annetta Nuuausala. The Kiwi Ferns bench forward goes straight up the middle and goes over under the posts... but the video referee overrules! He says she lost control in the grounding. NO TRY ruled!

22nd min TRY ENGLAND to winger Tara-Jane Stanley, chasing a cross field kick. There’s a wicked bounce and she gathers it in and scores in the corner. No conversion.
