30th min Lebanon pulled up for a poor play the ball, but there was nothing wrong with it! At least the foot touched the ball, unlike many, many rucks. That's a horrible call.

31st min The penalty count is now 6-3 to Australia, and there have been two very poor calls against Lebanon in a row. Soft penalty that one.

38th min Lebanon attack, and a good bomb on the last, but Australia defuse it. The Lebanon crowd and drums are pulsating... and now an Australian error gives Lebanon a chance in good field position.

I normally hate drums, but in this case, it is somehow OK, as it is not artificial, not amplified, not orchestrated.

Australia 10
Lebanon 0

50th min TRY AUSTRALIA to Cameron Munster and it is just a brilliant individual, stepping run up the middle of the park and he scores under the posts. James Maloney converts.

Australia coast home against valiant Lebanon

The Kangaroos have done enough to down a valiant Lebanon team 34-0 at the Sydney Football Stadium on Saturday night, with the World Cup minnows giving an excellent account of themselves.

Brad Fittler's men conceded just two tries in the opening half and four tries in 77 minutes before two quick tries at the death from the mostly scrappy Kangaroos blew the score out.

Australia 34 (Munster 2, Maloney, Cordner, Gagai, Trbojevic tries; Maloney 4, Smith goals) defeated Lebanon 0 at Sydney Football Stadium. Half time: Australia 10-0. Crowd: 21,127.

Samoa is going through to the next stage without a win, whilst Ireland will likely finish with two wins and a close loss and still don’t make it. It’s a flawed system.

4th min PNG winger Justin Olam runs 90 metres to plant the ball under the posts after a spilled ball, but the referee rules a knock on against PNG in the tackle. Fair call.

8th min TRY PAPUA NEW GUINEA to Lachlan Lam, after a big break from Segeyaro. They score under the posts. Rhyse Martin converts.

Papua New Guinea 6-0

Now the USA kick off is out on the full. Far too long.

12th min TRY PAPUA NEW GUINEA to Justin Olam. He's in this time! He scores in the corner. Rhyse Martin attempts the conversion from the sideline... and it is well wide.

14th min TRY PAPUA NEW GUINEA to James Segeyaro. It should have been a no try, as the referee has missed a knock on and off side at the kick off for PNG. That's a terrible call. Horrible call against the USA. But they streak away from that incident, just after the kick off and Martin converts from in front.

Papua New Guinea 16-0

16th min TRY PAPUA NEW GUINEA to Lachlan Lam. It's just a dummy and a step and a break and he's away. This is far too simple. Converted.

42nd min TRY PAPUA NEW GUINEA to David Mead... the referee yet to award it... and now he does! Mead just picks up a kick ahead and runs most of the length of the field. Rhyse Martin converts.
