Can we sack all the NRL refs and bring out the poms? The games are more free flowing with these guys.

Just back from Canberra Stadium. Sensational atmosphere, despite just 6000 in attendance. It's sad more people were not there to experience it. Great game, great fun.

Stylish Irish cruise past Azzurri
Ireland have pulled off the first upset of the 2017 Rugby League World Cup with the Wolfhounds stunning Italy 36-12 in stifling conditions at Barlow Park in Cairns.
Italy's cause wasn't helped with the pre-game withdrawal of Terry Campese while his would-be halves partner Jack Johns didn't fare much better, forced from the field early in the second half with an arm injury.
Ireland 36 (Liam Kay 2, George King, Kyle Amor, Michael Morgan, Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook tries; Liam Finn 6 goals) def. Italy 12 (Justin Castellaro, Nathan Milone tries; Josh Mantellato 2 goals) at Barlow Park. Half-time: 20-6

Moses inspires Lebanon to win over France
A Mitchell Moses masterclass has secured Lebanon their first ever World Cup victory as they defeated France 29-18 at Canberra Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The playmaker was at the heart of Lebanon’s attack as he scored a try, set up another two and kicked a late field goal in a scoreline that was harsh on the French outfit.
Lebanon 29 (Robinson 2, Layoun, Doueihi, Moses tries; Moses 4 goals; Moses field goal) def. France 18 (Ader 2, Cardace tries; Barthau 3 goals) at Canberra Stadium.

Taumalolo runs riot in big Tonga win
Kristian Woolf has long wondered how his Tongan team would fare on the world stage if all eligible players were present; in 40 minutes on a sweltering Sunday in Cairns he may have got his answer.
The team that was the talk of the World Cup prior to the tournament kicked off due to the high-profile inclusions of Jason Taumalolo and Andrew Fifita wasted no time to show that what is on paper will transfer to the field, Michael Jennings scoring the opening four-pointer of his first half hat-trick inside the first three minutes.
Mate Ma'a Tonga 50 (Michael Jennings 3, Daniel Tupou 2, Jason Taumalolo, Sika Manu, Peni Terepo, Ata Hingano tries; Sio Siua Taukeiaho 6, Ata Hingano 1 goals) def. Scotland 4 (Danny Addy try) at Barlow Park, Cairns. Crowd: 9,216.

It's a cliche, but the final score didn't reflect how well France played. 19-18 would have been good.greeneyed wrote:Just back from Canberra Stadium. Sensational atmosphere, despite just 6000 in attendance. It's sad more people were not there to experience it. Great game, great fun.
Some people talk about the weather. Others do something about it.
