Doom merchants: the only thing that could spoil this NRL season
Todd Greenberg
If ever rugby league has had a chance to take a leap forward, this is it. But it will only happen if we get the type of unity that has been missing in our game for too long. But for all that promise, rugby league has an enemy which threatens to tear us down … the doom merchants.
So often the heroics and athleticism on the field are quickly overshadowed by an agenda, opinion or act which robs the football of the attention it deserves.

Re: Rugby League 2018
Dear Todd
Sadly the maladministration of the code by the NRL is the main reason there is so much disillusionment. Hopefully the departure of John Grant will help. But things like the decision to let Matt Lodge play in the NRL, show how out of touch the NRL is.
More worrying, is the sense that the NRL favours certain clubs and certain "big players" at the expense of others. And that is the biggest problem in the NRL.
We know the loopholes in the salary cap are huge. The NRL has leaked figures that purport to assure us that we shouldn't worry. But, frankly, the response of the NRL on TPAs has just revealed another huge raft of loopholes. The fans have no confidence there is a level playing field, and that all clubs have a chance to win the premiership. You can constantly repeat the mantra to the contrary, but the fans don't believe it.
I hope the arrival of Peter Beattie turns things around. I really do. But the criticism will stop, when the NRL administration starts to perform. And for far too long, the NRL has not performed.

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

Mind you it could have gone ahead with the whole Raiders squad. Nothing to derail here any more!

New stadia plan
The NRL supports the Government's revised stadia strategy approved by Cabinet on Thursday morning.
CEO Todd Greenberg said the new strategy – which will see new stadia built at Parramatta and Moore Park and a refurbishment of the Sydney Olympic Park stadia – is still a great outcome for Rugby League fans.
"Naturally I would have preferred to see a new stadium built at Sydney Olympic Park in line with our Memorandum of Understanding," he said.
"But this remains the biggest infrastructure program the game has ever seen, one that gives our fans a new level of stadia facilities.
"We will have three top class rectangular stadia in Sydney which will bring our fans closer to the action than ever before.
"When you combine the new transport infrastructure to Moore Park and Sydney Olympic Park we believe this package will deliver a great outcome for all sports fans."
Mr Greenberg said the NRL will honour the commitments it made in the original MoU.
"We committed to playing the Grand Final in Sydney for the next 25 years and that commitment will be met," he said.
"Whichever way you look at it, this is a huge investment in stadia for our game and we always said that if the Government invests in facilities we will play our biggest games there."
Mr Greenberg urged all parties to support the new program.
"The Government has listened to the people, they have come up with a compromise plan and we should all get behind it," he said.

100% agree.gergreg wrote:Doesn't make sense to rebuild Alliance and just polish the **** (ANZ).
ANZ is bad because fans are so far from the action. This won’t change for the majority of seats after the upgrade.
Alliance doesn’t need a replica rebuild as it is.
Either do it properly, with Sydney stadiums built around public transport or don’t do it at all.
Re: Rugby League 2018
The Roosters are the only side to play out of Alliance aren't they? Plus they usually take 2 games on the road each year.

Re: Rugby League 2018
I can’t for the life of me work out why they are doing a full knock down and rebuild of Allianz... the places only has three tenants and doesn’t host any of the major sporting events. If anything, the plan should be reversed, with Allianz getting an upgrade and a knock down and rebuild done for ANZ, though you could probably argue either knock down is unnecessary.

Re: Rugby League 2018
I’m okay with Allianz getting an upgrade of sorts. Sydney FC, Waratahs (sometimes), Roosters and the Bunnies play there. The place isn’t fire safe either apparently, and is 30 years old.
Last I heard, the NSW govt has scrapped the plans for the ANZ KDR.
What I would rather though above all, is a demolition of the Wentworth Dog Park and the associated building on that property and build a state of the art vertical stadium, right in the heart of the city. That’d bring the crowds back

BJ Mole your new Crime Reporter is now revealing that police photofits for an unfortunate Canberra crime, implicate the Melbourne Storm. Forget Jack Wighton, this is the biggest Melbourne Storm Crime since the Salary Cap drama, the Chicken Wing and recruiting Brett Finch.
Who can deny this is Cameron Munster, Felise Kaufusi, Cheyse Blair and Will Chambers.

Six NRL Touch Premiership clubs revealed
The Parramatta Eels, Wests Tigers, Newcastle Knights, Gold Coast Titans, Brisbane Broncos and North Queensland Cowboys will field teams in a new NRL Touch Premiership to be played this year.

Raiders are not one of the sides participating in the NRL Touch competition. I'd have thought it'd be perfect as we're already training for those kinds of structures in defence.

Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

Re: Rugby League 2018
Sad outcome. But I guess not surprising, given the Raiders don't want to run reserve grade or Jersey Flegg teams either.
I very much hope the Raiders will put their hand up soon for the womens and touch premierships.

It fits with Slay the Dragon metaphor and rhymes with my name. Perfect.
