I thought so at first, but on another angle the ball looked to be clearly away from his hand when it passed.Sid wrote:Peachey's was a no try, looks like a knock on every day to me.

The only angle which looked like it could be a knock on is front on, which is the worst angle to judge. Side on left the bunker no choice but to award it.
Re: 2017 NRL Finals Wk 1: Teams and Game Day
I agree with the bunker call for a try
I don't think there was sufficient evidence to over turn that call.
How it went up as a try is beyond my understanding though.
Should have been sent up as no try

It's a stupid rule that you can propel the ball forward in any manner rather than a kick and for it to not be a turnover.
The ruling was correct for mine and it isn't nice for Manly to go out that way but it is what it is. The ball comes off Peachey's chest and from there it either hits his arm or it doesn't and then is kneed forward. The ref who was closer than any other us called it a try. It is sent upstairs where 2 replays look like he touched hit with his bicep on the way down, and 2 look like it didn't touch any part of his arm before hitting the knee. So they can't overturn it because it is inconclusive and anyone saying otherwise has eagle eye vision or some money on Manly to win. We sometimes forget that the benefit of the doubt has always been with the attacking team, and in that case there is surely doubt. No one can hand on heart say they 100% think it hit his arm. It is what it is. If the Raiders went out like that i'd be furious but until they change the laws about balls propelled off bodies and heads, then it's correct.

Yep you posted while I was writing mine and i'm about the same. I think it is hard though because the ref clearly thought it was a try so he has to send it up as such, but it was more risky to call try than no try with the game in the balance like that.Pigman wrote:I agree with the bunker call for a try

Benefit of the doubt isn't with the attacking team any longer Woodgers! BOD resides with the ref.
Re: 2017 NRL Finals Wk 1: Teams and Game Day
Is BOD not a thing though? I recall when the VR was about BOD and they took that away, but i'm saying in general Rugby League isn't that still the way they have to lean? It has to be one or the other.
In any case, the BOD resides with the ref then and he was closer than all of us to it.

Nine showed two still shots just before... and claimed to show the shots at the same time stamp... one head on, the other side on. They show a gap on the head on when it looks like it hits his hand side on... and vice versa... and they're suggesting its optical illusion.Woodgers wrote:Is BOD not a thing though? Frankly, I think they've stuffed up their time stamps... as you can see his finger deflecting. The referee made the wrong call IMO and the bunker technology has stuffed up.

GE, please don't be Raidersfan charging on the face of evidence.
Re: 2017 NRL Finals Wk 1: Teams and Game Day
It's the pinky finger deflection. It just doesn't deflect for no reason.
Re: 2017 NRL Finals Wk 1: Teams and Game Day
Teams about to run out. There are acres of empty seats, the cameras focus on the full seats. Where are all the Sharks fans who turned out for the grand final. It's an absolutely awful crowd on the western side.
Cowboys out first, there's Fenno. Now the drug cheat leads out the Sharks.

The Cowboys kick off to start the first half.
Re: 2017 NRL Finals Wk 1: Teams and Game Day
WTH???!!!! That's the worst call nearly ever.
Re: Raiders sign Corey Horsburgh, extend Makatoa
3rd min TRY SHARKS It's horrible for Winterstein... he is pushed back into the in goal and loses the ball. He's trying to place the ball in the field of play. The referee is saying try on field. The bunker is looking at this closely... looks like Chad Townsend grounds it after a complete shemozzle in goal. TRY to Townsend. Maloney converts. That is so lucky.
Sharks 6-0
Sharks 6-0

What's the chances my hotel in Seattle has this game on? I'm guessing none
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

Intent doesn't matter there. And you don't need "control" if the ball is on the floor. All about downward pressure

I couldn't even get Origin 2 in my Wellington hotel! I made my displeasure felt about that one, but apparently Sky Sports 2 isn't normally included in the hotel packages in NZ, and that's where the NRL is shown.greeneyed wrote:If they don't, given them a poor review on Trip Advisor.reptar wrote:What's the chances my hotel in Seattle has this game on? If you'd have asked me pre-game who I was going for, I'd have said I didn't care who wins, but since the game's started I've found myself going for the cowboys.
