NSWRL decides on Origin restructure
The NSWRL Board has today finalised its review of the 2017 Holden State of Origin Series and announced it will conduct an organisational overhaul and restructure, which includes appointing a new coach.
NSWRL Chairman Dr George Peponis OAM said the Board had decided it was time for a new direction and Laurie Daley would not be offered a renewal of his five-year contract which ended this year.

Doesn't matter who they replace him with nothing will change. They will just pick the same out of form players out of positions regardless who is coach.
Re: Laurie Daley sacked as NSW Origin coach
Hardly surprising, they should of won this year. Had to go.

That's fair. He spilled the lollies this year. Should have fallen on his own sword.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart slams NSWRL's treatment of Blues coach Laurie Daley
Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart has slammed the NSW Rugby League's "disgraceful" treatment of Blues coach Laurie Daley after the State of Origin mentor was sacked.
"Laurie is one of the greatest legends of Origin football, and being a Blue he should have been treated with a lot more respect than the way it was done," Stuart said. "I thought it was disgraceful how it was done. He deserves a lot more respect in regards to how he lost his position."

Re: Laurie Daley sacked as NSW Origin coach
Fittler would be short odds I reckon. No current club coaching and has done well coaching City. Been there done that at Origin level too. May be a lever to get NSW most successful coach back in the fold as well. Feel very sorry for Loz but it's a results based game.

Re: Laurie Daley sacked as NSW Origin coach
Fittler would be my pick given Johns has already ruled himself out. He would need help though. Someone like Furner would be a good option as a forwards/assistant coach IMO.
Whoever they select as coach, I would like to see them go back to the good old days when everyone was competing for a spot right up until selection night. Anointing players months before game one breeds complacency, entitlement and ties the hands of the coach.

Fittler is a lay down misere to be made coach.
If only because he's a terrible choice and it's nsw.

You just know that Fittler would pick Pearce with his Roosters affiliation.
Shoving it in your face since 2017

Re: Laurie Daley sacked as NSW Origin coach
I agree with Stuart. The way this was handled was terrible. The NSWRL should have allowed Daley to come out first and say he wasn't putting himself forward to extend his contract rather than tell the world he was sacked.
Anyway, it was ultimately some poor selections that cost Daley his job. If you want to change the culture of the team you don't start the process by immediately selecting players who have just been dumped by their club team for off-field indiscretions.

Re: Laurie Daley sacked as NSW Origin coach
Tend to agree. Daley getting shown the door was expected. The way it has been handled not so good. A lot like the situation with Henry at the Titans.
NSW need to think outside the box a bit here. Not sure putting a bunch of booze hounds (Fittler, Johns) in charge is going to work. You don't have to be an 'Origin Legend' to get the team playing at their peak.

It's always been Hayne's dream to coach NSW
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.
