New-look Bradford Bulls looking for coach to replace Rohan Smith

The first task facing the owners of the new Bradford rugby league club will be to appoint a head coach to replace Australian Rohan Smith.

Andrew Chalmers, one-time chairman of New Zealand Rugby League, and former Wigan and Kiwis coach Graham Lowe, got the go-ahead from the Rugby Football League to form a new club and met a 25-strong group of players, interim management and coaching staff after flying into the country on Monday.

Manly Sea Eagles great Geoff Toovey named Bradford Bulls coach

Manly great Geoff Toovey has been officially appointed coach of the newly resuscitated Bradford Bulls club. The former NSW and Australia representative was approached by new Bulls owners, Graham Lowe and ex-NZRL chairman Andrew Chalmers, who saved the recently liquidated club in a deal that was ratified by the RFL last week.

"Tooves is a rugby league man first and last," Lowe said a press conference at the Odsal Stadium on Friday. "I didn't paint him pretty pictures on the phone and gave him a little time to think about it. He agreed and that speaks volumes of the man.

Todd Carney signs with Salford in Super League after NRL rejection, club must overcome visa issue

SALFORD Red Devils are confident of being able to secure a UK visa for Todd Carney after signing the former NSW representative on a 12-month contract.

"The visa situation is not in our hands, it’s up to the Home Office, but the fact that he came into the country when he was playing for Catalans and he hasn’t been in any trouble over the last two or three years puts us in a good position," owner Marwan Koukash said.

"I’m very excited about it. Todd will quality to our side. We’ve got three class players in the halves competing for two places and this is what the coach wanted.”

Sam Tomkins failed to live up to the hype when he came to New Zealand Warriors

FORMER Warriors flop Sam Tomkins admits his two-year stint in the NRL was a disappointment but has no regrets about his time in Auckland.

Super League: St Helens to appeal Ben Barba’s NRL cocaine ban

ST HELENS hope to expedite Ben Barba’s rugby league return after the English Super League club confirmed it would appeal his 12-game cocaine ban.

The former NRL star arrived at the club last week to start a two-and-a-half year deal signed in May following his release by French rugby union club Toulon.

The former Cronulla fullback copped the illicit drug ban after testing positive following the Sharks’ grand final victory last season, prompting him to head overseas.

Very good match this morning, Hull KR put a real fright into Leeds, leading for much of the match. Justin Carney is still very solid. Ryan Hall would do well in NRL.

Ryan Hall has been world class for a number of years and has racked up quite a career with Leeds. It is a little disappointed that he has never had a crack at NRL but at the same time good to see him stick with Leeds for his entire career.
