Newcastle Knights well placed for improved year
Newcastle Knights coach Nathan Brown believes his side is in much better shape than they were this time last year.
"There is a lot more competition [for places] than there was last year," Brown said. "Hopefully people like Chanel Mata'utia will have more luck with injuries. Chanel hurt his knee in the first two minutes against the Gold Coast in Round 1 and never got back, we are quite hopeful that Chanel will have a big year.

Haha yeah I'm not so sure about that
Their team still looks like an absolute dumpster fire
Their only chance is that Ponga is the next superstar, and they apparently aren't getting him until 2018

Anything above the wooden spoon would be success, but hey if they jag 5 or 6 wins they might just claw their way out of spoon contention and hand that honour to the Dragons or Manly...simo wrote:lolcat wrote:I think they will do well, not top 8 but pretty close

6. Jarrod Mullen rightyho, good luck with that.
I really don't care where they finish next season to be honest, but I'll be gutted if we go close to losing to them twice like we did last year. Wow.

They're a much better looking side when Mullen strings a few games together. Still can't see Buhrer doing much at lock. I'd switch him and Barnett.
Going to be another long year for them.

Newcastle Knights Jarrod Mullen suspended by NRL under Anti-Doping Policy
The NRL said on Tuesday afternoon that it has provisionally suspended Newcastle Knights player Jarrod Mullen under the NRL’s Anti-Doping Policy.
The Provisional Suspension Notice asserts that Mr Mullen returned a positive A-sample for an anabolic steroid, Drostanolone which is prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the NRL’s Anti-Doping Policy. He was tested by the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) on November 29, 2016.
Mr Mullen is prohibited from participating in any WADA compliant sport, including Rugby League, while the provisional suspension is in place.
Under the Anti-Doping Policy, Mr Mullen now has the opportunity to have his B-sample analysed.
The NRL will not be making further comment while this process is under way.

"The club is obviously extremely disappointed," CEO Matt Gidley said.
"The club has a strict governance program, the players are regularly educated and fully aware of the consequences of going outside our governance guidelines.
"From here, there is a formal process we need to follow under the guidelines.
"We need to respect the process and in the interim the club will continue to monitor Jarrod's welfare."

As for the salary cap
He's breached his contract, they can sack him after the b sample comes back and never pay him another cent
No way it'll count on their cap

Newcastle Knights back Jarrod Mullen tests postive to steroid drostanolone
The great shame about Jarrod Mullen testing positive to steroids is he's one of the good guys. When an off-season scandal erupts in the NRL, it comes from a handful of usual suspects. Come on down James Roberts.
Read more: http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/leag ... tt1es.html
According to this he was tested the week after he tore his hamstring a second time. Maybe he'll try the Anderson Silva defence and try and get the minimum.
I also really like the idea of selling the club to members through shares.

Jarrod Mullen provisionally suspended by the NRL after testing positive to an anabolic steroid
JARROD Mullen is poised to have his $1.5 million two-year contract ripped up by the Newcastle Knights after he tested positive to an anabolic steroid.
Mullen, who turns 30 in April, faces a potential four-year ban that would end his career after testing positive to the prohibited substance drostanolone following a routine test at pre-season training on November 29 last year.

Re: Newcastle Knights 2017
This is probably a good thing for the Knights. They can **** him off without feeling too guilty about it. I had a quick look at Wikipedia and it claims he has played 211 games. That can't be right?? I thought he hadn't played a full season in about 5 years? Unbelievable they were paying the bloke that much, given his injury record.

I put Mullen in the same boat as campo, Stewart etc. They just don't know or are too scared to go this is enough
In this case Mullen went the drug route rather then sook and dig his heels in like Stewart
