It seems a bizarre ruling unless there's something funny with the registration. This isn't what the rule is about!!

Surely there are not too many Bears supporters left. It has been almost 18 years since they were last in the top grade.

Sarginson is also injured, Nathan Davis is on compassionate leave and 3 hookers are injured meaning Roberts had to spend time there yeah. The denial of Copley is an absolute joke imo. Has nothing to do with why the 21 man squads were brought in, he was brought in as an emergency player ****.DJ89 wrote:Hayne, Vidot and Don are all missing from their first choice backline and Tyrone Roberts is playing hooker. Titans had 5 of their strongest 6 players eligible for 1-5 injured and they couldn't bring in Copley. Let's just hope we don't lose 2 halves mid week at some point and have a forward in the halves whilst Croker or Turner play NSW Cup.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.
Re: Gold Coast Titans 2017
Copley was the 1st test of the NRLs new rule - good on them for standing firm. That's exactly the type of situation that punters could take advantage of...

If this one was denied then wondering in what scenario would the NRL approve a late change?

Though I thought I read that Davis won't play again for the Titans and effectively isn't part of their squad.

Chris Grevsmuhl signs with the Titans
The Aquis Gold Coast Titans today announced the signing of Chris Grevsmuhl, for two seasons, through until the end of 2018.
Grevsmuhl was released from his Penrith Panthers contract in November of last year due to personal issues and the Titans have been working with the 24-year-old over recent weeks to set-up the appropriate support network around him so he can produce his best football for the club.

Kiwis captain Jesse Bromwich, team-mate Kevin Proctor involved in alleged cocaine bust
Kiwis captain Jesse Bromwich and team-mate Kevin Proctor allegedly bought cocaine in Australia after Friday night's Anzac test.
Canberra man Adrian Mark Crowther, 38, appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday after allegedly selling cocaine to the two Kiwis players, as well as for possession of four grams of MDMA.
Bromwich and Proctor had earlier played in the Anzac Test against Australia at Canberra's GIO Stadium.

Gold Coast Titans suspend Kevin Proctor for four matches
The Gold Coast Titans Board met with Kevin Proctor early this morning to consider sanctions to be imposed in the aftermath of last weekend’s Australia vs New Zealand Test Match in Canberra.
Kevin was provided with the opportunity to explain his actions and make submissions to the Board in relation to penalty.
The Board also took the opportunity to make it very clear to Kevin that although he has already suffered personally from sanctions handed down by the New Zealand Rugby League, the additional Board sanctions to be imposed must reflect the history of this club, his leadership role as co-captain, and the collateral reputational damage the club has suffered even though the incident did not occur whilst he was representing the Titans.
After lengthy deliberations, the Board decided to impose the following sanctions:
• Continued exclusion as co-captain until further notice
• Four-match suspension from playing
• Fine of $20,000 (none suspended)
• 50 hours of community service (drug and alcohol prevention)
The Board acknowledged that while these sanctions may be viewed by some as harsh, particularly when combined with the Kiwis World Cup exclusion, the overriding view of the Board is there must be a very strong message sent that any form of illicit drug use is unacceptable and has to be driven out of the game.
“The Board has taken a strong stance with Kevin despite his four-match suspension potentially damaging the club’s prospects over the coming month as we seek to remain in finals contention. He has also let his teammates down, and seriously disappointed our members and commercial partners," Chief Executive Officer, Graham Annesley, said today.
“Of course, as a football club our priority is to win as many games as possible, but if we all have to suffer some pain in order to drive the message home, then so be it. We take our responsibility to the community seriously and we will not walk away from tough decisions just to increase our chances of on-field success.
“I am pleased to say Kevin has shown tremendous remorse since we first spoke with him last Sunday. Once again today he faced up to the consequences of his actions and accepted full responsibility. He also accepted the penalty handed down with good grace and apologised to the Board for everything he has put the club through in recent days”, Annesley concluded.
The very firm message to emerge from today’s hearing and outcome is the Titans Board is fully prepared to take tougher and tougher action against any player who commits drug related offences in the future. Hopefully this will not be necessary as there will be no further indiscretions.

Jarryd Hayne to remain with Gold Coast Titans in 2018
The Aquis Gold Coast Titans are pleased to confirm that Jarryd Hayne has committed to the club for the 2018 season.
Although originally signing a two-year contract with the Titans, the deal included an option for the second year in Jarryd’s favour to be exercised by 31 May 2017.
Jarryd delayed the announcement of his decision until after last night’s Origin game so it did not detract from the focus on the first game of the Series.

McQueen named at five-eighth for Titans
His team's never-ending injury crisis and Origin commitments have forced Titans coach Neil Henry to name back-rower Chris McQueen at five-eighth for Friday night's clash with the Rabbitohs although former Eel Jamal Fogarty could be parachuted into the position prior to kick-off.
That he was even able to name Fogarty in his squad of 21 was due more to good luck than good management with the former Titan returning to the Gold Coast last week after the mid-season switch of Mitchell Moses from the Wests Tigers to the Eels effectively blocked his path to the NRL.

Morgan Boyle extends his stay at the Titans
Aquis Gold Coast Titans young gun Morgan Boyle has today re-signed with the club, for a further three seasons, through until the end of 2020.
The 21-year-old joined the Titans in 2016, spending the season as part of the Under 20 NYC team. After a promising pre-season, Morgan made his debut in Round 6 earlier this year, against his former club, the Canberra Raiders.
“I’ve been here for close to two years and I’ve loved every minute of it,” Boyle said. “There is a good bunch of guys here and with the roster being formed, I can see a bright future.

Still not looking like a top 8 squad. Paasi and Grevsmuhl haven't found form this year. Hipgrave is a huge talent but still very young. They really need a better option than Greenwood as a starting 2nd rower.
They'd probably benefit from someone like Bodene Thompson. They don't really have any genuine 2nd rowers besides Proctor. Scott Sorensen should put in a call to see if they are interested.

Question posed on Matty Johns Show last night whether Hayne or Henry is the problem at the Titans. Consensus was Hayne. He copped a fair bit too. Hard to argue. Titans were the surprise packet of the NRL last year under Henry. Gone backwards since Hayne arrived.

I find it hard to understand how a 54-0 scoreline can be the culmination of 1 player's influence on the team.
There's got to be more issues than just Hayne's influence.
Maybe he started the ball rolling but there's a large number of steps inbetween.

Nobody mentioned a one off scoreline being a culmination of events. They have been in steady decline since he arrived. Never underestimate the toxic effect of a marquee player being a selfish prima donna.zim wrote:I find it hard to understand how a 54-0 scoreline can be the culmination of 1 player's influence on the team.

Does anyone need to specifically mention that it's the culmination of events?
It's pretty obvious that if it's been a problem over time, a loss and fall like they've gone through, is a failing of multiple systems in the club.
Recruitment, leadership group, coaching all need to be looked at.
