it's not the same board that ran the bears into a mess the last time is it?
Poor gold coast. They've had more names than a local phone book

So if they go there, they'd be the most successful Gold Coast franchise.greeneyed wrote:How solid are the Bears? They went bankrupt. They moved from North Sydney as they were in decline. And then went bust on the Central Coast. They'd not won anything since 1922.
I'm for it, though the name should be North Bears

NRL pour cold water on North Sydney Bears bid to buy Gold Coast Titans
NORTH Sydney’s $7 million bid to buy the Titans is set to be torpedoed with the NRL outlining their preference for a fully-fledged club on the Gold Coast. "We will consider any bid put forward but we have always said our preference is to have a club based at and playing out of the Gold Coast," an NRL spokesman said.

The NRL need this so they can make history happen again!
Re: Rugby League 2017
Doesn't look like the NRL are interested. They want a real Gold Coast team.

Re: Rugby League 2017
I can't see a viable argument for this to happen. The Bears are not financially well off so it is not like it secures the Gild Coast team in the long term.
Surely there are not too many Bears supporters left. It has been almost 18 years since they were last in the top grade.

Titans secure Copley
THE Titans have secured a deal for former Bronco Dale Copley effective immediately as they look to patch up their injury-riddled roster.
Copley has agreed to a two-year deal with the Gold Coast that will see him remain at the club until the end of the 2018 season.
The 25-year-old has been granted an early release from his contract with the Roosters in order to make the move after spending the first two rounds playing reserve grade for the Tri-colours.

Dale Copley signs with Gold Coast Titans to end 2018, effective immediately
The Gold Coast Titans are pleased to announce the signing of Dale Copley from the Sydney Roosters, effective immediately. Copley will join the Titans for the remainder of 2017 and also season 2018.
"We’ve been in discussions with Dale for a while and it’s great that we’ve been able to come to an agreement that will see him available for the club this week," coach Neil Henry said. "It’s no secret that we have a large contingent of players on the injured list and the fact we’ve been able to get the deal done with Dale is a good result for us.

But that could really suck for my fantasy team.
Why get rid of Davis then?

Titans to seek exemption for Copley debut
Dale Copley has arrived on the Gold Coast ready to make his Titans debut against the Eels on Friday night but his inclusion will be subject to the new guidelines around team selections implemented by the NRL this season.
Some three months in the making, Copley's release from the Roosters to join the Titans was expedited this week after the Titans' injury crisis worsened when Jarryd Hayne, Anthony Don and Karl Lawton all suffered serious injuries against the Knights last weekend.
With space on their roster for an outside back, the Titans had been keeping tabs on Copley but were unable to agree to his release terms with the Roosters until this week, the 25-year-old arriving on the Gold Coast Wednesday afternoon eager to make an immediate impact.
The new guidelines around team lists in 2017 stipulate that if a team wishes to bring in a player not named in the original 21-man squad on Tuesday they must apply for an exemption which will be evaluated by the NRL's head of football, Brian Canavan, on a case-by-case basis.

Titans bid to play Dale Copley denied
The Gold Coast Titans have had their application for new recruit Dale Copley to play against the Parramatta Eels on Friday denied by the NRL.
The new system introduced by the NRL this season for naming team lists requires each club to name a squad of 21 players on Tuesday. If the club wishes to bring in a player outside the 21 named, they must make an application to the NRL.

Isn't there a 10 day cooling off period for signing announcements etc?
If so, he would have been signed 05/03/2017, before Hayne went down

yeah, I'm liking the 21 man squad rule. Glad this at least sets a precedent that it won't be messed around with too much.

Titans have 12 players unavailable. I think its a bit stiff. That said, thems the rules
Gold Coast Titans 2017
I expect this might be more procedural than anything else
I don't think they could have cleared the 10 day cooling off period
But what this does do is send a clear message... if Stuart (or any other coach) were wondering if they could do something like not name Taylor/Croker and hope to get an exemption for them late in the week, they'll now know that's a **** pipe dream

The thing is, Copley wasn't even at the **** club on Tuesday! They hadn't no chance of naming him! An analogy I liked on a different website was "should the Sharks name Segeyaro every week just in case they sign him?"Pigman wrote:I expect this might be more procedural than anything else

1. U can only name registered players
2. U can only name players on your roster
Neither of which Seggy currently meets.
