Had to laugh when I saw this ten meter tall sign over the top of the Parramatta leagues club exit. Is it regarding the visitor to the licensed club or Anthony Watmough.

Auckland Nines cancelled from 2018 schedule
THE Auckland Nines will be scrapped next year with the pre-season competition axed from the NRL’s crowded scheduling.
A crammed off-season has seen the nine-a-side tournament make way in what is a busy rugby league calendar.
It follows a similar path of the All-Stars match which also won’t be played next year, but will return in 2019.

NRL Nines tournament suspended for 2018
The NRL, ATEED (Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development) and Duco Events today confirmed that the NRL Nines Tournament will be suspended next year to ease the workload of players following the 2017 Rugby League World Cup.
NRL Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Abdo said the Nines had been one of the game’s success stories over the last four years and had a long term future on the Rugby League calendar.
But he said that with the Rugby League World Cup running until 2 December, it was not viable to ask elite players to back up for the Nines tournament in early 2018.
The same applies for the Harvey Norman Rugby League All Stars game in the pre-season, which will also not be held in 2018 but will return in 2019.
Mr Abdo said there was every chance the NRL Nines would be held in Australia when it returns to the Rugby League calendar and the NRL would seek expressions of interest from cities interested in hosting the event.
He said that Auckland had been a fantastic host of the event and confirmed that there is a strong likelihood that the event will return to New Zealand in the future rotation.
The NRL and Duco Events acknowledged the important role that ATEED had played in the establishment and ongoing success of the event, along with major sponsor Downer and other event partners.

ARLC appoints two new Commissioners
The ARL Commission today announced the appointment of two new Commissioners to fill the current vacancies.
Professor Megan Davis and the Honourable Peter Beattie AC will join the Commission immediately.
Chairman John Grant said the appointments would significantly strengthen the Commission.
He said Professor Davis is one of the nation’s leading constitutional lawyers who has had a long and distinguished international diplomatic career as well as being a champion of Indigenous and women’s rights.
She is also a passionate Rugby League fan who grew up in country Queensland, where rugby league was at the centre of her community.
"It is a privilege and honour to be invited to become an ARL Commissioner," Professor Davis said.
Mr Beattie was Premier of Queensland from 1998 until 2007, making him one of the State’s most successful political leaders.
During this period he was a strong advocate for Rugby League and was responsible for the construction of Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium and the Gold Coast’s Cbus Stadium.
"I have a great love of Rugby League and I am excited about the prospect of working with the Commission to make the game even greater," Mr Beattie said.
Mr Grant said that with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, finalisation of the club funding and licence agreement, constitutional reform, and the NRL’s digital presence likely to all be completed by year end, the pair were joining the Commission for the next exciting stage of the game’s development.
"I have no doubt these appointments will give the Commission additional expertise and insight as it looks to capitalise on the foundations that have been put in place over the last six years," he said.

What a shock that the Broncos spent almost exactly 7 million on football operations last year.

I have never been a fan of Scott Morrison in the slightest, but this amazing reaction by Ray Hadley has moved the treasurer up a notch for me. Hadley really is a worse commentator than he thinks.

If anyone remembers Todd Carney making a tackle against Brisbane and the knock on laws being interpreted the current way, for the first time.

NRL clubs find middle ground, agree to $9.4 million salary cap for 2018 season
NRL clubs have agreed to a salary cap of $9.4 million next year, in signing off on a pay offer that will on Monday be put to the game's players.
They voted, they agreed unanimously at a two hour meeting at League Central on what effectively amounts to a $9.4 million cap. That includes a flat cap of $9.2 million, plus a $200,000 portion of the veterans and development player's allowance, which can be spent at the club's discretion.

Meanwhile the Rooster are elated with the news. Politis has been quoted as saying "I don't think we will be paying all our players $9.2m, but we'll give it a red hot go"BJ wrote:Broncos agree to $9.2 million cap.

We revealed to him it was $9.2 total, and not per player. When he asked how long the cap operated this way, and we confirmed since the cap was created, he ran. Last known sighting was at Bondi Beach, swimming out to sea
