Yeah I rate Damien Cook, he looks really sharp when he comes on. Having said that, most do when compared to Robbie Farah who is a slug out of dummy half
Paul Vaughn has played himself into a blues jersey.

I like that team but Leilua is the best Centre in the world IMO.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

Undoubtedly. Even more obvious when you look at how he plays against the top teams. I like Croker, but the finals series last year showed that BJ is a class above.julian87 wrote:I like that team but Leilua is the best Centre in the world IMO.
Re: 2017 State of Origin
Is agree with pigman that trying to our grind Queensland is a complete waste of time.
We need explosive players like BJ who can go out and win the game for you.
The main problem is hooker, we just don't have anyone who is really good enough. If we pick Farrah again we are ****. Maybe give Wallace a go.
I'd have Maloney and Austin in the halves. They are both in great form and Austin can break a game open and he is possibly the best defensive half in the comp at the moment.
There's plenty of options in the forwards but it should come down to form instead of stupid hair cuts and funny names.
We absolutely need to go out to try to win this instead of not trying to lose by much. All or nothing!

Not a bad side. I think both the Trbojevic boys need to be there.
Move on from Morris's, Jackson. I love Croker and think he is a solid player, but Leilua has more x-factor than any other NSW centre going around. Bird and Leilua would be a good combo and Bird provides versatility if disaster strikes.
In saying that, let's hope Hopoate and Walker can do the job Daley selects them for.

Re: 2017 State of Origin
I'm all for Joey coming into the side. It's just for me the way he's started the year has been a bit too crazy. He's really pulled it in over the last 2 games.
I think Croker would be the one missing out if Joey gets picked.
Bird has played on both sides of the park so in my team he'd move to the left and Joey comes in on the right. With Nofoaluma on the right as well it'd be like playing next to Rapana Lite(TM).

I don't think they'll be dropping Blake Ferguson from the right wing.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.
Re: 2017 State of Origin
I'd bet the only player dropped is Farah. Maybe.
For Gallen retiring it will probably be Vaughan since he now plays for the right club. For Mansour, Laurie will probably SOS Brett Morris.

That's a fairly underwhelming back row. I rate Frizzel though, he's perhaps the best back rower NSW has.

Cordner showed a lot of potential a few years ago, but he hasn't really kicked on like I anticipated he would.edwahu wrote:Cordner is getting back to his best. For NSW sake I hope he does. Otherwise we'll have to rely on Wade Graham being offside and his ever increasing desire to take a dive.

Yeah you're spot on here. If Bozo was still on the selection panel, curtis sironen would be in the 17 as part of his agreement to sign with manlyzim wrote:Oh yeah totally. I think Tedesco is fantastic but IMO he's too one dimensional and doesn't strike fear into the QLD team. A top club player, but doesn't enough strings on his bow as yet. Despite his form and time away from the game Hayne does that and has the proven ability to win a game on his own at that level with his added X-factor. He's a must pick at fullback for me.
Apart from that I think it's got a good balance of everything. Plenty of speed, power, size, experience, youth, and game breaking ability.

Re: 2017 State of Origin
I know he played well for Australia but Fergo has been terrible at club level for two years. Hopefully that counts for something one day.
Hayne will also probably have signed with Union before the sides are picked.

So Hayne gets picked on form showed 3 years ago? That mentality qualifies you to be a NSW selector.

Dont hate that. I'd make a few changes but It's at least got some x-factor that could test the QLDers
And it'll be better than the team NSW actually pick
Re: 2017 State of Origin
This would be my NSW team, we actually have a great chance to take this series with Inglis and Scott out and there's plenty of good players to choose from.
1. Tedesco
2. Mansour/B.Morris
3. Hayne
4. Leilua
5. Ferguson
6. Moylan
7. Maloney
8. Woods
9. Peats
10. Fifita
11. Cordner(C)
12. Frizell
13. Graham
14. Bird
15. Boyd
16. Klemmer
17. R.James
If Peats is fit he's our best option at hooker, if he's not available I'd be bringing in Damien Cook. Likewise if Hayne is fit and in form he must be in the backline somewhere and having him next to Mansour is dangerous. Having Leilua and Ferguson on the same side could be a worry defensively but they are the best players in those positions and can create points and finish opportunities. Graham is better on the edge but is more than capable of playing in the middle and offers us another point of attack. It's also time to bring in Ryan James as a forward with an X-factor off the bench, we have so many attacking weapons available with this team and that's what we've been desperately missing for the last decade.

Re: 2017 State of Origin
I'm sorry I'll just never understand the decision to pick Hayne. Everyone says he has the x-factor and can win games but I've yet to see that since he's come back. And before anyone brings up that field goal last year, Maloney is perfectly capable of slotting them and also Reynolds. I can't think of what Hayne would add that you can't get from Tedesco/Moylan/Bird etc. right now.

Re: 2017 State of Origin
I wouldn't be picking him in a key position just yet but he's a better option at centre than Jennings or J.Morris. I can understand why people wouldn't choose him though as he hasn't looked promising in the few minutes he's been able to play this year but he's still an experienced game breaker who can deliver if he's in the right mindset.

You likely don't win the series whether you pick Hayne or not
But what you do know is Hayne at his best is one of few players capable of single handedly swinging a series
So you pick him and hope he does something out of this world to change the game. He probably won't but by picking guys like Hayne, Leilua and their ilk, you maybe get the rocks but you give yourself a punchers chance to 2 games if diamonds and steal a series you have no right to win

Hayne makes my team on the wing. I'm not sure I can come up with too many players who have the potential to break a game open from the wing.

Re: 2017 State of Origin
Just going on some of the points raised in the thread in the the main forum, I'm not so sure NSW are no hope even allowing for Smith and Cronk. Accepted wisdom is your halves can only work off the platform their pack builds for them, and I think Qld are looking a little light in forward depth.
I'd go with:
8 Napa
10 Thaiday
11 Papa
12 Gillett
13 Maguire
15 Hess
16 Lowe / Cooper
17 Lillyman
Slim pickings outside that lot I think? Jarred Wallace is getting talked up, Guerra might be there given he's been there before, same with Myles (though surely not!?) - I expect Papa to spend a fair bit of time in the middle. Bateman might get a spot in a squad before the series is through. Oh, I just remembered the youngest Kaufusi, he's probably ahead of some of these other guys. Have I missed anyone?
Maloney + a decent hooker* behind a good pack could cause some trouble.
*could well come unstuck here.
