The bold plan to bring North Sydney Bears back to NRL via Gold Coast Titans

Central Coast Bears CEO Greg Florimo believes the Gold Coast franchise will succeed if the NRL gives the green light to his organisation's bold proposal to partner with the Titans and rebrand the franchise as the Gold Coast Bears.

The NRL is the holder of the Titans' licence but has indicated it has no desire to remain in that position in the long term. Previous league incarnations on the holiday strip - the Chargers, Giants and Seagulls - have all folded as the club struggles to gain a foothold in the competitive Queensland sporting market.

Titans declare they ‘aren’t going anywhere’ after moves by the Bears to take over the club

GOLD Coast chairman Rebecca Frizelle has declared the Titans “aren’t going anywhere” following moves by the Central Coast Bears to buy the NRL franchise.

The Bears bid team have held informal discussions with the NRL, who have owned the Titans since the club was placed into voluntary administration last year.

Speculation about a possible takeover by the Bears surfaced five months ago and intensified recently after they attempted to meet with Titans white knight Darryl Kelly.

i used to be a supporter of bringing back the bears, but now not so much.

the NRL had its shot here and they blew it. The Coast doesnt want half a team, we want our own team, getting 2-3 games per year wont do it. and it will most likely be the teams the crowds dont want to see. (just like the northern Eagles days).

The joint ventures of the late 90's early 2000's have become absolute , and now they want to bring in another one!?

they would be better winding up the titans and transfering the licence to a south east queensland team or a 2nd brisbane team.

No. They should not get rid of the Gold Coast. The comp legitimately needs a Perth team, a second Brisbane team and a Central Coast team, AS WELL AS Gold Coast.

If they need to reduce teams to make this happen it needs to be at the expense of Sydney teams. Otherwise it's just regression.

They don't need a Central Coast team, though happy enough if a Sydney club decides to relocate there. We need teams Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Wellington in that order. Brisbane and Perth essential and quickly, and happy to add two teams to get yo an 18 team comp. the rest should be done through relocating Sydney teams.

I don't believe you can add a team on the central coast without removing a sydney team or newcastle - too many teams in effectively a small area.

Robina is far better than homebush for access, park and ride at homebush plus steep parking fees or walk for miles from the carpark.
Gosford stadium is a pain for parking too, 1 multi level near the leagues club that takes ages to get out of.

Robina stadium is an absolute must. For it to have no teams playing out of it would be an absolute travesty.

It's bad enough the Titans disrespect it every two weeks.

Have to agree with GE. Greater Sydney does not need more teams, they actually need less. Brisbane desperately need another team and to be truly national we need Perth and Adelaide. The NRL needs to realise that to grow the game they need to expand into markets that will need support to survive but long term are essential in building the game and increasing revenue streams.

It would be great to have a team based on the central coast but in any reasonable expansion plan it has to be a relocated team or based on another team folding.

Burleigh Bears tell North Sydney to back off in bid to rebrand Titans as Gold Coast Bears

BACK off, we’re the Gold Coast’s Bears.

That’s the message the Burleigh Bears are sending North Sydney as they protect their 80-year association with rugby league on the Coast.

News North Sydney is angling to buy the Gold Coast Titans franchise from the NRL and rebrand as the Bears with almost identical logos and colours to the rugby league club established on the Gold Coast in 1934 has Burleigh leaders determined to protect their identity.

Definitely the Gold Coast is where the Bears fans are.

That 6 year old fan from when they last won the premiership is that 100 year old retired guy with leather skin on Surf Beach.

absolutely, get rid of that **** brookvale, move the eagles licence to central coast, west tigers become far west tigers in perth, titans stay put and souffs go to brissy lol like rusty would ever let that happen. The NRL is making record profits, this is the time for them to expand and support new markets. I would like to see newcastle keep their team just as I would like to see st george move to wollongong, however clubs struggling financially should be the teams forced to move.

IMO the NRL need to do more to ensure that the Gold Coast is a viable team.

Subsidise ticket prices, pay for events that get community involvement. Make the Titans brand so prevalent in GC schools that kids build a passion for them.

The AFL invest disproportionately in teams to ensure that all teams supporters grow why shouldn't the NRL.

100% correct call. Rugby league watches on blissfully while AFL is spending and targeting the Gold Coast and Canberra regions.

Surprised the Brisbane Bombers consortium haven't tried to buy it and play out of Brisbane and Gold Coast similar to Dragons
