NRL chief Todd Greenberg's peace talks with Mike Baird led to stadium solution
One of Todd Greenberg's first tasks as NRL CEO was to mend a fractured relationship between the code and Premier Mike Baird that occurred during Dave Smith's tenure as the game's boss.
While it wasn't the desired outcome for many in the NRL who have been championing a new stadium at Moore Park, it has left the majority of the clubs happy with the new boss, which was echoed in a phone hook-up with all the club CEOs and Greenberg on Thursday night.
"The last 48 hours have been really important and some big decisions needed to be made over the last 48 hours to anchor today's announcement," Greenberg said.
"We took the clubs' views and were very clear on the clubs' views and we articulated that to government over the last three or four weeks. But ultimately it was us representing and leading the sport."

NRL set to take grand finals away from ANZ Stadium during four-year renovation
The NRL has left the door open to take the grand final on the road after only committing to a 20-year extension to play the showpiece event in Sydney once renovations of ANZ Stadium are complete in 2023.
As part of the $1.6 billion investment in Sydney stadiums, the NSW government negotiated a 20-year deal to play the decider in Sydney, but that will only commence once the refurbishment of ANZ Stadium is finished.

Victorian government makes sensational bid to land NRL grand final at MCG
The MCG could host the NRL grand final after the Victorian government launched a sensational bid to uproot the game from Sydney. The NSW government on Thursday announced a $700 million plan to convert ANZ Stadium into a rectangular venue, part of a $1.6 billion investment into Sydney's stadiums.
The offer is on the table," Mr Eren told Channel Seven. "If you want a successful event where we will get over 90,000 attending and hopefully break another crowd record, I'd have it right here in Melbourne."
"All we need are the goalposts. So the offer is there and clearly Sydney is not up to it," he said.

How the NRL and Stuart Ayres' stadium plan at Moore Park unravelled
While ANZ Stadium is the obvious winner, this result is a victory for the clubs that have been lobbying against the NRL to ensure funds weren't "wasted" on a stadium in the city that no one wanted to play at. Dave Smith's decision to leave them out of negotiations angered the clubs, which stood firmly opposed to the NRL and Sports Minister Stuart Ayres' plans to build a 55,000-seat stadium at Kippax Lake.

NSW Premier Mike Baird's stadium backflip is not a win for rugby league
The last time Mike Baird waded into the deep, murky waters of sport, he declared Shaun Kenny-Dowall should be stood down after the Roosters star was charged with domestic violence.
Now, he's cost the city a once-in-a-lifetime chance to build the best rectangular stadium in the world – the same stadium he trumpeted in September last year.
Baird completed the backflip on Thursday when he announced that ANZ Stadium will now receive most of $1.6 billion allocated for a new stadium network to ensure Sydney has "the best rectangular stadium in the southern hemisphere". Doesn't quite have the same ring to it, does it?

Could build it in Kings Cross, Mike Baird has made sure that area is ripe for redevelopment.
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

Just read that Manly have been given funding to upgrade Brookie, including putting a new grandstand where the hill is as well.

Where does everyone think the grand final should be for the four years that ANZ is being redeveloped for? It'll probably be at Suncorp or another Sydney stadium but I really like the idea of bringing it to the MCG.

Yeah, I have no problem with New Zealand, Sydney or Brisbane, or even Melbourne.
Just no to the MCG, I watched origin there last year and it's just not right for rugby league.
Much like Homebush isn't.

NRL Grand Final should stay in Sydney: Bennett
Brisbane Broncos coach Wayne Bennett has called for the NRL grand final to stay in Sydney amid requests for the decider to be moved to Brisbane.
"A Brisbane grand final doesn't excite me. We throw too many things out too easily these days," Bennett said. "We need continuity and I hope they keep the grand final in Sydney while they are upgrading their stadiums.
"Sydney is the home of the NRL grand final, it's as simple as that. Melbourne is the home of the AFL grand final. We shouldn't tamper with it or play with it.

Auckland joins Brisbane and Melbourne in the race to host NRL grand final
Auckland has joined the race to host the NRL grand final after joining Brisbane and Melbourne in expressing interest in staging league's season decider.
Auckland Tourism has been strongly pushing the NRL for premium content, including the potential for a State of Origin match across the ditch, however their attention is now expected to turn to the grand final.

NRL welcomes Townsville stadium funding
The NRL said a new stadium will be delivered for Cowboys fans following the commitment of $100 million towards the project by the Turnbull Government today.
CEO Todd Greenberg said the funding – along with a commitment of $140 million from the Queensland Government and $10 million from the game – would give North Queensland sports fans the facilities they deserve.
"This is terrific news not just for Townsville, but for all of North Queensland," Mr Greenberg said.
"A new stadium will deliver 1,650 jobs for the city at a time of need and it will be the cornerstone of a new entertainment precinct in the city.
"So not only will our fans benefit from a better experience in a new stadium, but the people of Northern Queensland will benefit from new jobs and an influx of cash into the local economy.
"It’s terrific that all sides of politics and all levels of government have now made the funding commitments needed to make a new Townsville Stadium a reality."
Mr Greenberg said the next step was for all levels of Government to work on a schedule to deliver the new stadium.

SCG Trust begin push for new 40,000-seat stadium at Moore Park
The SCG Trust has reignited its bid for a new stadium at Moore Park with a modified 40,000-seat proposal now on the table.
The trust's hopes of a new stadium seemed dead in the water last year after the state government ruled in favour of providing the majority of its $1.6 billion stadia investment into ANZ Stadium, ending a push for a 60,000-seat venue at Moore Park.
