Thaiday for McQueen and Taylor for Papalii to offer impact. With Cronk out I'm not sure who takes the extra bench spot, Jake Friend?

The refs sure were trying to keep Queensland in it at the end with a couple of dodgy calls, I'm sure they were just trying to get out of Brisbane alive though.

Incredible performance from Hayne, he's in his best form since 2009 and hopefully for NSW and Parra's sake he will keep it up from here. Te'o and Guerra were both very good off the bench and should definitely start in the place of McQueen for Game 2. Papalii should be dropped for Game 2, probably for Taylor.
I think picking Papa and McQueen were Qld's biggest faults this year. There both so far out of form it's not funny, I think they'll fix these picks up and not have the same weakness for game 2.
I thought McQueen was solid. He had that offload for the early linebreak and then went off for a decent chunk of the game while Teo and Guerra played. Id be starting Teo though in Game 2 and only dropping one of McQueen or Papalii
I must admit I've never been a fan of McQueen, his is solid and he doesn't belong in origin for me. Teo really made an impact tonight.

Ohhhhhhhhhh Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh. The other TR (Tom Raudonikis) must have been impressed with that Blue Cattledog spirit. Tough as nails in defence NSW with Morris' effort of one on one with Boyd as good as any I've seen for ages and a match winning tackle imo. Defence wins matches.

I think GE has a point about losing a halfback in the first 10 minutes, but Qld have Australia's heir apparent half back on their bench. On his form tonight though, there is no way DCE is fit. He looked a bumbling shadow of his usual confident self. The loss of Cronk for the series will force Qld to make changes to their side. It would surprise me if people like Teo and McQueen got another run. Thaiday on one leg would be better than what Teo and McQueen dished up tonight.

Game 2 will be a cracker in Sydney and I'd expect Bird to be back in the side for Hoffman. Congratulations to Laurie and the side. Now to keep their heads in the right space to take out the series in Sydney.

NSW finally pick Hayne at FB instead of picking 3 fullbacks and playing Hayne on the wing, and look at the performance he puts in...

This post is just a huge rambled brainstorm from me about the Queensland team, so read if you like but I thought I'd share my opinions.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ORIGIN 2:

* Queensland need some more go forward/ size from the forwards
* Need more spark off the bench
* Need more strike power in the back line apart from GI
* Need better fifth tackle options and structure when attacking the try line
* DCE needs to be more prepared

ORIGIN 2 SIDE:
1. Inglis - Inglis needs the ball in space. Right now, Billy despite playing tremendously well in Origin 1, doesn’t have the attacking potency he once had. He isn’t going to slice through the line like he once did anymore. Inglis playing at fullback will give Queensland a more dangerous kick return unit with both Slater and Inglis bringing the ball back. It also provides Inglis with room to run and create for others, rather than NSW just drifting in defence to shut down Inglis.
2. Slater
3. Gagai - Gagai brings sharp footwork and elusiveness to the Queensland team. While Boyd was solid in Game 1, in my opinion, his Newcastle teammate brings more to the table in terms of his attacking game. My only worry for him is his defence particularly paired up with an inexperienced winger (Slater)
4. Hodges
5. Tate
6. Thurston
7. Cherry-Evans - DCE needs to and I believe will be more prepared for Origin 2. I thought he would have been given more time training at 7 in case of an injury, however he looks lost out their tonight when thrown in the deep end.
8. Scott
9. Smith
10. McGuire - I think the addition of another specialist prop will aid Queensland as I’m not sure the Papalii I think they lacked some size tonight. McGuire is a hard worker with a big heart who has improved dramatically over the last few seasons and I think it’s his time to pull on a maroon jersey.
11. Myles - He moves to the back row, however plays the exact same way he played in SOO1.
12. Thaiday - A welcomed return to the side. I’m 90% sure he would have scored if it was him getting that ball, not Gillett who spilt it.
13. Parker

14. Milford - Risky, but could pay off big. Play him in the same role as DCE played last season and I’m sure he will be able to handle the defensive side of the game if he is used well. Queensland need a gamebreaker and The Milf is exactly this. His speed and elusiveness can split even the best defensive lines and make something out of nothing. I would use him from the 30th minute and play him the 10 minutes before half time and 10 minutes after. Depending on the game situation I would maybe use him in the last 15 minutes as well.
15. Teo - Retains his place after a strong performance.
16. Gillett - Shifted to the bench to suit his rocks and diamonds impact. Gillett is a strong ball runner and solid defender but sometimes drifts in and out of games. I feel as if a few stints off the bench would suit him best.
17. Papalii/Guerra - Cant split these two. Papalii adds a ‘wrecking ball’ type of impact and once again went out of his way to get a hit on Gal again. He was quiet in attack, but I thought his defence was impeccable. On the other hand, Guerra was outstanding and well and truly deserves to retain his position in the team. He made a genuine impact and has great hole running potential if they use him well close to the line.

Have to say before I head off, what a shame that a great game was spoiled by such such disgraceful tactics from the likes of Paul Gallen. Filthy play in every single tackle, facials, elbows to the head, lying down pretending to be injured. It's a shame there are players such as Gallen in the game. NSW incredibly grubby through the match.

State of Origin: Superlatives not enough to describe unbelievable contest

Origin football has entertained us, tortured us, teased us and amazed us for 35 seasons. In this the 100th match between these great sporting rivals, it was as if all the highs, lows, dramas and magical moments of the past, all came to join the party on this wonderful night of footballing celebration.

Paul Gallen survives Papalii’s dog shot as Blues claim impossible victory

PAUL Gallen had to survive a dog shot from his arch rival Josh Papalii to lift NSW to an impossible victory at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday night.

In the eighth minute of the second half, the Blues were on the attack when Gallen passed, relaxed and then got smashed from behind.

It was a carbon copy of the Sharks — Raiders semi-final from two years ago, when Papalii was responsible for exactly the same low act.

This low act should now officially become known as the coward tackle.

Im a Blue but Buzz has got it wrong. There was a split second in the hit and if Gallen wants to turn his back on a defender then thats just bad luck and dumb.

As a QLD fan, gotta say well played to NSW. Hayne was the difference but the forwards really dominated. Scary to think that Jennings was barely involved and Bird and Fifita are due back as well.

Have never seen QLD, and in particular Cam Smith and Thurston, look so shambolic. They looked really stunned by Cronk's injury. Obviously Cronk's arm didn't help, but was surprised at how poorly DCE played. Papa looked like an out of form 2nd rower playing prop and deserves to be dropped. At least he got that shot on Gallen. Teo and Guerra made good impact. Thaiday will be a welcome return.

Game 2 will be epic. NSW's best chance in quite a while.

You're having a laugh. Been happening since 1908. Wait 'til Third-man Thaiday gets a run - then we'll see grubby.

As an aside, has Johnathan Thurston ever passed a ball backwards?

It was the turning point. The fact Queensland were in it until after the siren was a magnificent tribute to the Queensland spirit.
