Re: Brisbane Broncos 2018
Why do Broncos players manage to not get thrown to the media wolves when they do something wrong
Re: Brisbane Broncos 2018
My only guess is a reserve grader on a million dollars a season. therefore freeing up enough salary cap to sign a homesick Josh Papalli for $250k a season.greeneyed wrote:No guesses, thanks.

Heard who it supposedly is this morning. Assuming it doesnt get swept under the rug (it will) Lodge is looking good for a bench spot. What a team culture they're building, one **** out another comes in.

The Courier Mail this morning has it as our old friend Tevita Pangai Jr, I'm afraid.

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

I can also reveal that former Raiders player Kevin Walters has been accused of ‘falsely impersonating a sports media personality’.

Outrageous that some clubs get Commonwealth taxpayer funds to build something like this... when others are denied.

Is that why the NRL is bringing in a general spend cap. Broncos get their stuff bought for them so it doesn’t count and they can have a leg up

Matt Lodge’s victims staggered by footballer’s lack of remorse
THE New York family terrorised by Brisbane Broncos forward Matthew Lodge say it is heartbreaking he is continuing with his life and will be held as a role model for young Australian rugby league fans while failing to show any remorse or pay the $1.6 million in damages ordered by a US civil court.
They were also upset by remarks made by NRL chief executive Todd Greenberg this week alleging discussions were taking place to conclude the matter.

It's not really up to the NRL to manage his debt. However they should be asking how remorseful he is if he refuses to pay anything and has his management painting him as a victim.El_Capitano wrote: ↑March 2, 2018, 11:52 am Surely the nrl should be garnishing his wages to pay this debt?????
To me the interesting thing will be the precedent the NRL has set here and if Hayne ends up in the same situation. The NRL can't just sit on the sidelines if he is, there will be a massive boycott of the game if they do.

Who cares about the victims. Greenberg got the warm fuzzies.
Re: Brisbane Broncos 2018
Lodge got a soft interview. Greenberg got some tougher questions... but not as tough as he deserved. This is an absolute disgrace that the NRL has let this bloke play.
How many mistakes does Greenberg get before Peter Beattie says... we need someone else?
Greenberg's approach on TPAs is very poor... It is time to get this fixed... but no, he's only interested in dispelling media criticism... just enough.

Re: Brisbane Broncos 2018
Didn’t see the interview but interested to know if Sampson asked if he intends to pay compensation?
It would be nicely followed up by and if so why did you take minimum wage at the Broncos when the knights offered you $400K?

What are the chances of any payments the Broncos make on Lodges behalf being included in the salary cap? I know, I know it's ridiculous for me to expect them to be held to the same rules as other clubs.

It is a question that must be asked of the NRL.gergreg wrote: ↑March 22, 2018, 7:08 pm http://www.canberratimes.com.au/rugby-l ... 4z5qx.html

But I agree... very unlikey they'll charge it to the Broncos' cap.
Re: Brisbane Broncos 2018
Will you raise it with the NRL during your weekly conference call GE?

Re: Brisbane Broncos 2018
Knocking back a $400,000k pa from the Knights certainly hasn’t done him any favours.
Will be interesting how this plays out.
The realist in me stays that the Bronco’s will come up with some “quiet” money themselves and just pay the family to make it go away.
However the minute that the victims/victims lawyers release a statement or say anything in regards to payment being received questions will be all over the place.
Even a settlement that requires parties not to make comment will raise massive media attention as there ain’t no way you can make any sort of settlement on $100,000pa when you owe $1.6 mil

Any such payment needs to be counted to the Brisbane Broncos salary cap.

Re: Brisbane Broncos 2018
Cue any day now the front page of the Courier Mail will read that Matt Lodge’s great start to the season has seen him being offered an upgraded contract extension of $500,000pa with the money left over from Adam Blair going to the Warriors.
