It’s a stupid system.
Consider the fact that, in their 2019 premiership side, 3 out of the 4 spine players of the Roosters were purchased, and these players won them the game. There’s a big difference is producing an Origin quality spine player than a bench front rower who comes on for 20 minutes.

Re: 2022 Rd 5 V Storm: Game Day
Went about as well as we expected. Some thoughts: * In the modern game which is so based on territory and momentum, you simply cannot afford to drop the number of bombs we do on a regular basis. It’s a vicious cycle - bomb dropped, more territory and possession forfeited, more tackling, we get more ...

Re: 2022 Rd 5 V Storm: Teams and Previews
A few things I wanted to raise: * The “new attack” is definitely a work in progress, and I am confident with Crawley it will get better eventually. The team appears to be stuck in between at the moment, but with more expansive play, I feel as though we have started to take the cheap and easy option....

Re: The worst ever performance?
I think the quality of the opposition needs to be considered heavily. Cowboys, with a Dearden/Townsend halves pairing, are a bottom 4 side and we didn’t look close to winning. If we dished that up against Panthers or Storm, it would have been 70. Quality of our own team also needs to be factored in...

Re: 2022 Rd 2 V Cowboys: Game Day
That’s the first game in a long time I’ve switched off before the end. There have been poor performances in the past, but considering the level of the opposition, that was diabolical. Two dropped points against a bottom four team. Some points: * I have very much been thinking we shouldn’t rush Savag...

Re: 2022 Rd 2 V Cowboys: Teams and Previews *Teams p1*
I'm liking the discussion about Sutton. He was very over rated by our fan base imo. Barring injuries there is a huge chance he ends up being jumped by Hola, Mooney and maybe even Rushton (who seems like a more mobile version of the same type of player). Given his partner's embarrassing online behav...

Re: 2022 Rd 1 V Sharks: Game Day

I am sure the plan was to move Hodgson there after half an hour, his injury obviously prevented that from happening (and Whitehead did tire...

Re: Jamal Fogarty out for four months, Brad Schneider to start at half
Schneider is the perfect option. He’s solid, and also a back up kicker. If you’re basing your comments on the trial games only, I encourage you to go back and check out his exceptional performance in reserve last year. I’m super pumped to watch his proper debut this Friday. I’ll be there cheering h...

Re: Jamal Fogarty out for four months, Brad Schneider to start at half
I feel sorry for Fogarty, but on Schneider - I like what I have seen of him. He takes it very seriously and works extremely hard. Has developed his kicking game considerably (he has a big boot), and is known for putting in a lot of extras. A big body too, so won’t be a huge target in defence (though...

A few points: * I am probably in the minority, but CNK at fullback for me. Re: Jamal Fogarty joins Canberra Raiders on three year deal
I often wonder how many Titans games people in the NRL media actually watched. Fogarty is an OK NRL Footballer. Certainly I think his "organisational" game and kicking game has been greatly exaggerated. His kicking game, in particular - for the Titans, he would go with a mid field bomb the...

Re: Tapine wants contract extension in nation’s capital
Not sure if this makes sense or if I am going mad, but Tapine (on the field only) reminds me of a front row version of Jarryd Hayne. Highly skilled, physically gifted (with seemingly very little effort in the gym etc.), and can be MOTM when he decides he wants to be. These sorts of players can be ve...

Re: 2022 All Stars: Teams and Game Day
As much as I like Valemei, he can’t be second or third choice at this stage. A Winger needs to play by the “first, do no harm” philosophy. Simply put, they don’t have to win you a game, but they can’t lose you one. He is far too unreliable at this stage of his career (of course, I hope he improves a...

Re: Nick Cotric returns to Raiders on three year deal
I think this is a good move. People underestimate the importance of Wingers in the modern game. We saw it in our final season game against the Roosters - a bad game as a Winger can lose you a game easily. Cotric won’t give you much downside. He makes great metres, finishes well, and most importantly...

Yep, CNK, Cotric and Rapana are already a grand final quality back three. Plenty of grunt there in getting us yards early in the set. The likes of Savage and HSS provide a bit more finesse. Re: Jamal Fogarty joins Canberra Raiders on three year deal
Fogarty is at best a solid player. A large downgrade on George Williams, which was to be expected. Having Crawley back will hopefully help out to mitigate that loss. His goal kicking ability and experience in leading a team is definitely a plus. Granted there weren't many options immediately availa...

In the salary cap era, you cannot afford to have a 900K player give you value that is around 500K. He is a Clive Churchill and Dally M winner, and an Origin player so expectations are high. He did not reach them this year - I cannot think of a game we won off the back of him, whereas there were plen...

Re: Jamal Fogarty released by Titans, set to sign with Green Machine
Torn on this one. On the one hand - I think he is probably the best “value for money” on the market. He has 17 overall try contributions (4 tries, 13 assists) in 21 games. For comparison, Adam Reynolds has 11 overall try contributions (5 tries, 6 assists) in 23 games. Of course, Reynolds isn’t the c...

Watching the game yesterday made me think of last year’s preliminary. We really missed a great opportunity that night. Good. If you aren't double-jabbed by the time the season rolls around again, you mustn't have wanted it and a happy to wear the consequences. For people saying “Brown is better than Williams/Frawley” - yes, that is the case, but this is a crucial decision for the club over the next few years. A snap, short sighted decision to overpay someone puts the salary cap out for the next few years, which means we won’t compete in that time. If ther...

My greatest concern is that we (i.e. the club) will go into 2022 believing that this year was just down to bad luck with the Williams situation, injuries, etc. because if that's the view, we will be worse next year. We need to update our tactics and style of play as a minimum. After missing out on ...
