Re: 2023 Rd 25 v Bulldogs: Game Day

Burton is a really poor defender. Having a weak edge inside him doesn't help, but I can't see him as a marquee $1m player. Unless he can become a fullback maybe. His attacking skills are thereabouts but he is such a target in the line

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2023

Agree with Botman on this one. Assuming they can defend (which looks great re Strange and Chevy improving rapidly), you want these guys in there 2025. I think you could potentially be clever in these situations too. Younger guys struggle to keep up for a whole year, but so do older guys. If you recr...

Re: The Soccer/Football Thread

We lacked Kennedy and energy after the 120 marathon (a few minutes after Kerr's goal aside). I agree depth in defense (and midfield, i'd say) is definitely required. And a coach that is willing to utilize that depth during the tournament. I hope they land the Women's Asian Cup in 2026.Who would have...

Re: 2023 Rd 25 v Bulldogs: Game Day

memories of Hors carrying Max King down the field on his back like a child on a pony -twice - last time we played these blokes. Their forward pack stinks. And although they get Kikau back they've lost Preston who's prob been their best fwd.

We should win comfortably. Famous last words

Agree with Julian re Penrith signing the best they can on minimum wage.

But I can see the appeal of that deal for everyone. If Schneider is serious about improving and trying to build his reputation (and a long career), getting a year or two in the Penrith system would be a great move.

Re: Run to the finals

To me the placing of a bet we'll go backwards next year is a no brainer. We're letting go of our marquees (dally m, spine, captain) and signing no one. That's a sure bet if ever there was one. If we improve its due to a new signing. 2025 3rd quarter is when you pick up the red marker and start ruli...

Re: Run to the finals

I don't feel very confident answering those questions. And that is my point, I'm not sure why people feel as confident as they seem to in their opinions on Stuart and the state of the club. I can see genuine narratives on either side. And I think which narrative wins out will be determined by how su...

Re: Run to the finals

To what end would making the finals benefit us this year? We made the finals in 2022 and the comforting reasoning was that it would be invaluable experience for the likes of our boom fullback Savage. Fast forward a year and Savage is nowhere to be seen and our team is objectively worse, older, slow...

Re: Run to the finals

Is that correct. If Cowboys win both their games they can still pass us due to better fore and against? They have a bye and Penrith. The latter almost a guaranteed loss these days Penrith rested a heap of players last round last year against the Cowboys and got flogged. https://www.nrl.com/draw/nrl...

They gave it their best effort. And a reminder that you don't get the opportunity for big highs without the chance of big lows. I'm not huge on soccer knowledge, but it looked to me like we were a bit slow in the center backs back and England had a little more poise and skill through the midfield. ...

TPJ certainly had the ability to be the best forward in the game. But he didn't have the mentality and application to be the best forward in the game. unfortunately so. I always wonder about the fork in the road moments in careers like this... what if he'd be given an opportunity here early? Could ...

Re: Canberra Raiders reportedly keen to target Ezra Mam

Penrith's success is fascinating because no one player is critical, at least not in regular season games. They have a similar winning rate with and without Cleary. Maybe the fullback? But I'd guess they could slot Turuva in there too. The foundation appears to be fitness and defence - one on one the...

The January 6th indictment is by far the weakest. They know they couldn't get him for incitement so they have shoehorned it into other laws and timed it for the election cycle. The Matildas game could have gone either way so many times. We (wife and 7yo daughter) travelled from CC to watch it at the Darling Harbour live site. Daughter plays and is heavily invested. The build up of anxiety and tension, and then explosion of exhilaration at the end, was epic. This is why spo...
