Re: 2021 Rd 5 V Panthers: Game Day

There’s a lot to take from that game. We matched Penrith for intensity and skill for probably 50ish minutes of that game and then had a couple of periods where they got it over us. At the end of the first half after CNK went off, we conceded a penalty with the ball and that turned momentum their way...

Re: 2021 Rd 5 V Panthers: Game Day

I do love a Friday night game! For what it's worth I think this will be close. It will definitely be tough and I'm not expecting us to win but we won't be blown off the park and are definitely a few bits of luck and a break out game from Wighton away from a massive upset here!

Re: CHN and Horsburgh

Whatever happens here we should definitely not forget that Horsborough picked up an astounding 0 votes in last years player of the year awards at 23 while with the exception of 1 aberrant season, Papalii has been in the top 7 players every year.

This is a very strange hill to die on....

Re: CHN and Horsburgh

The fact that Papalii has continued to improve over his career doesn't relate at all to where he was at a similar point in his career to Hors. He was much better and as has been pointed out, playing alongside McCrone. Hors has had more brain snaps in a single game than Papalii has had in his whole c...

All this talk about trading Hors is making me nauseous. Imagine if we let Papa go before he hit his prime? Hors has significant upside, like Papa esque upside. Was Papa definitely better at 23 than Hors? Dunno, possibly not, fringe SOS player back then. Sutton and James having a few good games does...

It's also important to remember whilst we fans might have some concerns, there has not been a peep out of the boys playing NSW Cup thus far. And its early days yet, but i think it does speak a little bit to the culture of the club. They're not looking for shortcuts, they're trying to forcen their w...

Putting it into more perspective, he didnt concede any points, set up a try and kicked 4 goals For those counting at home (and to help rayden with his homework) that's a +12 point contribution. He also earned a handy 6 again with one of his runs that doesn’t show up on the stats but better not let ...

Re: 2020 Rd 5 V Panthers: Teams and Previews

Panthers are flying at the moment and will be very tough to beat. Not a bad thing to be going into a game like this as underdogs at this point in the season. I think we can match them from a defensive perspective but their attack has been looking much sharper. That said, Wighton is due for a good ga...

Hard to see this coming into play very often and from my perspective it still places too much responsibility on referees and doctors. From a medical perspective it stays about the same and ideally would remove some pressure to clear player but the grey areas still exist here. For referees the decisi...

Young reminds me a lot of Paul Gallen, actually (without the trying to play like a half part). Big, strong shoulders and upper body. Very physical and direct, little subtlety or nuance about his game. Plenty of niggle and dumb penalties. High workload, plays above his weight. Gallen too played quit...

Re: 2021 Rd 4 V Titans: Game Day

That was a very measured performance after a game that took a lot out of the team last week. It seemed like our game plan was to complete sets and wait for the titans to make errors and then try to capitalise on them. It’s conservative but it worked and our goal line defence was the difference in th...

Re: Rugby League 2021

This is more poor decision making by the ARLC. First, it is reactionary and rushed. Second, it does nothing to address the problems of player welfare that we saw on the weekend. The hurdle of three HIAs is so high, that it is a rule that will virtually never been used. There's only been one club th...

Make it happen, GE!
The other option is to have an unlimited bench but with a limited number of substitutions and no interchange.

Now that would fundamentally change the way the game is played.

Re: 2021 Rd 3 V Warriors: Game Day

The 6 man bench seems like a good solution. You might also end up with teams using it like they used to with 4 spots being filled by named reserves and 2 backing up from the reserve grade game. Any system that is based on the type of injury a player receives or how they receive it is too complicated...

Re: End of Croker?

People have short memories. A lot of the best attacking play we produced last year was down the left edge with great interchanges between Wighton, Whitehead and Croker with some great line running as well. When our right edge couldn't produce at all it was our go to in attack and also the solid edge...

I’m a fan of the 6 again rule and in general the way it is being applied. There are still some consistency issues to iron out but there were with penalties that had a much bigger impact on the game. There will always be inconsistency but on the whole this increases the likelihood of referees calling...

Really disappointing way to end the season. Ricky nailed it in his presser. We were well below our best and the Storm blew us off the park with an incredibly fast start that we never made it back from. The performance was much more disappointing than the result. There are a large number of teams that have been seriously impacted by travel this season. Most people’s real gripe with the draw was that teams like the panthers and eels got a massive advantage from the draw where they have barely had to leave western Sydney all season. At this point of the season...

That’s a very late decision given that it seemed like this had been agreed to earlier in the week and does have an impact on preparation.

Watch Ricky use this to galvanise the team and further circle the wagons. Physically the team is ready and this might contribute to us winning the mental battle.
