Re: The Politics Thread 2021

I think we all agree that (i) ALP need to get it together to have a shot at winning, and (ii) the media has some influence on public opinion. We disagree on the extents to which each is a problem, and the influence it has on politics. I don’t think anyone has accused Nickman, Pigman, TR etc as bein...

Re: Curtis Scott police assault charges dropped after court rules arrest 'unlawful'

Just watched it and have to say he's a well-spoken and thoughtful young man. His remark about being 22 and still working things out is well worth considering. I hope he has a great season. What he's gone through will have made him a lot tougher mentally. Considering what happened to Tom Starling, I...

Re: The Politics Thread 2021

@Botman Completely fallacious comparison. In the case of the Raiders all people were saying (certainly all I was saying) was that unrecognised bias influences sports umpiring. If your club becomes a “winner” that actually helps a sports club. I’d say the Raiders are approaching a state of neutral w...

To be fair, you're of the opinion the Government should just *checks notes* "print more money" to handle all of our financial woes, so I highly doubt you're in a position to argue which political party does a better job managing the economy. Lazy and reductionist comment which indicates t...

Of course there is influence. I just believe it is far less than Labor would have us believe. The reason I believe this is that in an age of limitless access to partisan media, people are more than at any point in modern history simply consuming media that reconfirms their own views. Re: Where do you get your news from?

We all know the MSM can be heavily biased and you have to take your information from a wide range of sources and with a grain of salt I think part of the problem is that a lot of people don't know this, and that there are people who don't recognise that opinion pieces are just that, so when these o...

Re: The Politics Thread 2021

I don’t have much interest in what the ALP needs to do to win an election. They’re all politicians in the end. No party really represents my views. I have “liberal” social views and believe in well run, market economies, with stable long macroeconomic policies and governments intervening only when ...

Re: Where do you get your news from?

The mainstream media does publish and broadcast lies quite regularly and increasingly. They call it “opinion” and those giving us their “opinions” we’re told, don’t have to follow normal codes and ethics of journalism. Switch on Fox News anytime to see it. Or have a read of the Murdoch press during...

It's very, very complicated for me. I still don't fully understand why Bailey was on the right wing... I can only think it is because Ricky would want to pair an experienced winger with a rookie centre on the left, assuming Jarrod Croker is not fit. If Croker is fit, Simonsson has to be on the left, Rapana in his rightful position on...

Sounds like the most likely explanation. We've done some great things over here on TheGH, forcing Rapana back to the right, the Raiders back into the Heritage jersey, and apparently Rupert Murdoch is about to back down and stop promoting the Liberal Party and undermining our democracy!
