Re: Who will be the Canberra Raiders Nick Cotric or Emre Guler of 2019?

^^ true edwahu, looking back all Raiders rookie of the year from 1987 onwards have all gone on to play 39 or more first grade games which surprised me (exception Bulgarelli with 27) 2018: Guler 2017: Cotric 2016: Priest 2015: L Bateman 2014: Boyd 2013: Vaughan (Milford debuted same year) 2012: Nich...

Re: The Cricket Thread

Greg Chappell **** everything.. When guys started getting picked on potential rather than runs on the board it was all over That policy had success with Clarke but basically failed with everybody else. On the flip side we've seen plenty of guys break their way into the test team through weight of r...

Re: The Cricket Thread

Our bowling quartet nearly got us home and you can never blame them for falling short when the blokes who hold a bat for a living are playing like chumps. Finch isn't a test player. Marcus Harris was very solid..good debut Koala was poor..his 2nd dig dismissal was poor. SMarsh just won't go away..w...

Re: The Cricket Thread

The biggest change in junior club cricket in the last 3 years has been an introduction of retiring after a certain number of balls faces rather than runs. I don’t like it tbh. It means the strong kids just hit out. When it was based on runs those kids would often have to adapt and lengthen their in...

Re: The Cricket Thread

It's going back to the foundation we are laying. In the junior ranks the kids are being taught to play with strong hands hitting through the line. This is great for pounding the fences but also great for hitting catches. Even at the very early ages kids get to bat for their allotted time. Placing v...

We sure can pick them. CFO of Huawei arrested in Canada and facing charges in the US for violating sanctions against Iran. Re: The Cricket Thread

Lets review the batting... 2nd was Harris. Well he looked positive. Started to like the look of Ashwin. Then found out the hard way, that even the slightest lack of technique or concentration can mean your wicket at this level. Decent start to a Test career, but got a start and should have done bet...

I'd expect Renshaw and Burns to be seriously looked at after we get pasted in this test Both out cheaply vs Tassie today. will have to wait till 2nd innings to stake a claim. IMO any coach that introduces a systematic illegal drug program should get a life ban. ...backdated to a previous life I don't know that it could be regarded as 'systemic' based on the publicly available information. Re: Cap management

I think fans too easily gloss over the fact that a lot of players would much rather play at a successful club like Easts for less money. They’re stable, successful, are based in one of the more sought after areas of Sydney and have easy access to great facilities they share with Sydney and cricket ...

Re: Cap management

I know we all rag on the Broncos (rightly so) but it is true that players will accept less money to stay there. Consider a player on $300k there and offered $400k to play for the Tigers or something. After tax, managers fees etc that extra $100k is closer to $50k. For that amount they have to consid...

yeah its an interesting experiment... you want a fun one, try and balance the Raiders cap given what you think they'd earn. You can easily see how we're pressed against the cap even though we shouldnt be. It's a tough gig. I'd love to see someone else come in a remove the three stooges from the pro...

Re: Toughest preseason ever 2019

I think things are looking very bleak for the Raiders in 2019. Williams as a permanent half is a step backward, props that are average and largely untested and the loss of Rapana the first 12 rounds, who is arguably our best player. The only positions that look solid are our back row, lock, and hoo...

Re: Cap management

The minimum salary for 2019 is $105k. I'd be stunned if any of the Roosters top 17 was on minimum... but maybe I should be stunned... I think it would be more 150k average for players 16 and 17, someone like Tetavano or Matterson, and then you have Radley who would've been minimum last year. This y...

No idea why people are so concerned about these fringe forwards going elsewhere. They move through the NRL system like a bout of gastro on a cruise ship. This will be Knight's 4th NRL club in 4 seasons. It will take a couple of injuries for him to see game time in firsts at the Bunnies. As for comp...

Re: Cap Management

Goes to show how hard it is to juggle the cap. Especially when you have young minimum wage players that come through and make an impact one year and demand an upgrade to extend their contract. That's why the 3rd party deal fiasco is such a terrible thing for the comp. Especially when you names of B...

Re: Cap Management

Not sure if that's an example of us but that's huge overs for a well managed cap for players 15-30. I would say at a club like the Roosters 15-30 are on 100k average and most on minimum wage. That plus probably 500k in TPA is why they can carry multiple million dollar players. Middles are a bit und...

If only we could unload Wighton that easily. $700k+ to shop for a half is exactly what we need to start, plus Rapana injury exemption funds of $350k, we would finally have the $1m kitty to get a half!!!! Come on Raiders release Wighton and let Wighton go up the Hume to Newy! Sent from my iPhone usi...
