Re: The new Laurie Daley
I’m very impressed and I have high hopes for his career. Biggest thing for me is his defence, and his willingness to go after the game. He’s made sure the ball is in his hands when the game is on the line a few times already. And he executes well with that pressure. Running game and passing game can...

Re: Weekes
Could build a career at fullback. I thought in pre-season he was a fullback. But as I’ve watched he’s probably more of a fullback right now. With a couple years of development he could lift his defence and confidence to challenge for spots in the halves. He kicks confidently. Once we get Sanders an...

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2024
I posted a number of times in the pre-season about going after Angus Crichton, he was getable and on the market. He's turned his form around and back close to his best as predicted.
He'll probably stay at the Roosters now.
Would have been great for us. Ah well.

Re: Raiders look to extend Ethan Strange contract
Ethan has showed tremendous signs of class for a very young half. Great work to upgrade and extend now. He should be paid very well and I think the money discussed is fine. Mentioned to death is some quality young talent coming through. I said in preseason, 2024 is the year of Strange. He’s ready, h...

Re: Parramatta Eels still hoping to hold onto Raiders target Ethan Sanders
Disagree. Get him here as soon as possible (without selling the farm), so we are in controll of his development. In saying that, he's young and might not even turn into a first grader. But he's a talented young half and worth spending time developing. The more young talented guys we have nipping at ...

Re: 2024 Round 1 v Knights: Game Day
Great defence. Really get me excited.
Apart from what has already been mentioned;
I thought Hoppa was really bad for Strange. He was in poor position for the ball outside him pretty much each time it came their way. Will be much better for Strange when Kris comes back.

Can we get back to the hard hitting analysis like; We should have good attack and defence at the same time.
On second thought we actually shouldn't put that on an open forum or some of the other NRL coaches might cotton on to it.

-Morgan Smithies is an absolute unit. Keen to watch him go.
Excited for Strange. That was the key piece for our medium to long term development. First part of the new spine to spend time in that role. I hope he has a killer season.
Everything else is window dressing.

Re: 2024 Rd 1 v Knights: Teams and Previews
Just putting on record I think you guys are jumping at shadows regarding Strange. He’s a lock for the 6. Schiller will get the centre spot. Wing is a lottery, and I think Ricky has put the wind up Cotric, but he will get a spot. No idea on the other one. As an aside, I don’t think any of them are go...

Re: 2024 Rd 1 v Knights: Teams and Previews
Weekes was signed for an option in the halves (maybe fullback). We needed one after losing all our back ups. He’ll play NSW cup and if Strange or Fog miss a week he’ll play NRL. I don’t have much doubt Ricky will go with Strange at 6. He ticks every box Ricky likes. Schiller will play centre and he’...

I love how people are so frustrated with the tactics and the coach, that they now criticise Ricky because he thinks he can win the comp, and those aspirations are just way too high

Re: 2024 Rd 1 v Knights: Teams and Previews
However, the cattle argument is fair. Coaching and structures is important, but it does come down to the players. To be fair to Ricky, there is actually some method to his madness. Last year, our whole spine was terrible, easily bottom 4. To say if we just ran better shape we move up the ladder is ...

Re: 2024 Rd 1 v Knights: Teams and Previews
It’s a real tough argument to win to say we play a style that works in big games, when we didn’t win any big games… We play conservative and tough. It’s percentage football, and we have a quality pack, so it does play to our strengths. It keeps us in games but it has its limits for sure. Namely big ...

Re: 2024 Rd 1 v Knights: Teams and Previews
They had Mick Crawley on big sports breakfast this morning and he was asked about team selections without giving too much away. He said the team was basically picked a month ago. Re: Canberra Raiders team for 2024
Yeah I think Savage is the most likely change to the team most want. I think Strange will get the nod. He's exactly the type of player Ricky gets a hard on for. Schiller to centre is a lock for me, he's been great, particularily one on one defence has been brilliant. Starling and Hosking should make...

Re: 2024 Rd 1 v Knights: Teams and Previews
No talk so far of Weekes playing at left center or fullback but it is an option. He has mostly played fullback in his senior career. Now that Strange has only received a fine for his lifting tackle I would definitely have him playing 5/8. The fullback spot is wide open with talk of Rapa to play his...

Re: 2024 Rd 1 v Knights: Teams and Previews
I had kind of ruled out Rapana in my mind for fullback since he had said he was too old for it last year. But fit, lighter and happy Rapa is probably the absolute best person for the job. Love him as a player and will be very solid. He will also enjoy a week or two back on the ding during the year t...

I said in pre-season Strange should be the 5/8, in part due to his defence. His trial last week showed he just had that bit of class about him. Today he made it all very obvious. Strong contact, great technique under pressure. Just didn’t miss an assignment. Took the right options a number of times,...

I thought Hoppa was solid. His grubber in the first few minutes was very surprising (and good)
But his lie down catches kill me
Imagine playing Cronk, Slater and Smith with with Hoppa at FB. They’d set up the isolating bomb about 50 times a game and score hundreds

I agree the trial showed he needs more time playing that level since he hasn’t played NSW Cup yet.
But if he’s a potential starting half in 2025, you want him here asap.
Very important position, you want him in system when you can.

Re: Raiders star's career remains in limbo nine months after terrifying seizure
This is the first time I'd heard he actually has a defib in his arm. Gives some context to Rickys comments from before xmas saying he's not going to play again. Ricky is probably being realistic. Harsh to hear as they may have been. Unfortunate for CHN, and it seems he hasn't yet accepted his fate -...

I get that it's a red flag he's leaving the club early again.. But from his perspective a couple of clubs are deciding how close to $900k they can pay him for 4 years. Mariota was great. Has to be in the 17. Footwork is brilliant. Saulo and Guler both good and strong. With Mooney, there a few decent players fighting it out for 18th man at our strongest. Weird I was surprised at Stange’s kicking game, in a good way. He had a very long kick that got us out of trouble. All his other kicks have landed in the right spot even if they weren’t contested. Even dribbled one in for a repeat set. Weekes had one mid field bomb that was a bit of a mis kick but h...
