Re: POLL: Canberra Raiders 2010s Team of the Decade: Five eighth

He was first reciever because he would run around chasing the ball. He was hooker at times because he would just be there. During the times he took control of the team, and he definitely did. We were not a well structured team. We were erratic and unstructured and ultimately hard to defend against. ...

Re: POLL: Canberra Raiders 2010s Team of the Decade: Five eighth

Campo would have been great in Wightons position this year. With Hodgson and a halfback (of at least reasonable NRL quality).
Of coarse he never had that.

Re: POLL: Canberra Raiders 2010s Team of the Decade: Five eighth

Campese managed to have two purple patches in his entire career and that was it - second half of 2008 and 2010. Outside of that, he was an ordinary footballer. Even in the first half of 2010 he was poor and that's reflected in our ladder position. It's little wonder that we were dross for so long w...

Re: POLL: Canberra Raiders 2010s Team of the Decade: Five eighth

Campese dragged that team into the 2010 finals on the back of incredible personal form. It was amazing what he delivered at his best. At his best, he was up there with the very best Raiders of all time. Injury cruelled his career... even now, I love watching him play in Canberra Raiders Cup. He jus...

Re: POLL: Canberra Raiders 2010s Team of the Decade: Five eighth

Campo’s 2010 season was more influential than Wighton 2019, I can’t argue with that. But Campo never played to that level again, and For the rest of the ‘decade’ was average. Can’t really pick him as best 5/8 of the decade when he really shouldn’t have been playing first grade for most of it. Austin...

Re: NRL announces rule changes for trainers, endorses challenge system

Everyone enjoyed the wild swings in momentum that happened with the new strip rule, so I really can’t see people being upset if a team is getting smashed and then a player kicks from within their 20m line and nails the line well within the opposition half and get the ball back to completely shift th...

Re: NRL announces rule changes for trainers, endorses challenge system

I doubt the NRL has given the tackle in the air two seconds thought. It's a disaster waiting to happen... and I agree it is probably driven by a thought bubble from Trent Robinson, who wanted Sia Soliola penalised for charging down Cronk. It will make kicks harder to defend. Which may very well be ...

The scrum rule I like. As a team you’d set the scrum in the middle of the field every time.
3v3 each side, or 4v4 and 2v2. Best of luck stopping RTS, Ponga and Co in those spots.

If I compare Dugan and Wighton, Wighton played more games and we actually made a prelim with him there, but Dugan is clearly the better fullback. Wighton has always been a good player and athlete, but not a very good fullback. So I can’t pick Wighton as our best fullback. But Dugan was a selfish ass...

Under the new EBA agreed to with the players Union the NRL (&clubs) agreed to guarantee contracts when someone couldn't fulfill a contract due to injury. That's a big part of the reason this is a thing all of a sudden.
It's the right thing, but they're painted into a corner.

Parramatta got away with it with Watmough a couple of years ago. His contract was removed from 2017 and 2018 cap. Re: Raiders half Aidan Sezer joins Huddersfield Giants on two year deal

Was the argument that Sam Williams is better than Sezer? I thought the argument was that Sezer is mud. He’s not playing to NRL level, he wasn’t getting involved, he wasn’t closing out games, he wasn’t creating opportunities to any reasonable level, and he was just a passenger. There’s a big difference between saying Cameron Smith will eventually succumb to mortality and;
Storm would be a better team if they cut Smith loose now and hand the team to Bodie Croft.
Or that it was Cameron Smith that’s holding them back in 2018 or 2019....

I'm sure I'm in the minority, and will get blasted for even suggesting this, but I think Storm would actually be better off without Cam Smith. Re: Canberra Raiders close in on major signing coup with Melbourne Storm centre Curtis Scott

You’d have to back them in to get it right but that’s a huge move for Cam Smith to go to halfback full time.
I mean just for that club, Cam Smith has been making the first decision on where the ball goes for the last 15 years, and the subtlety in how that happens.
Another fun thing to watch next year.

The only way i'd be on board with moving BJ along is if it provides the money to recruit a very promising middle forward. BJ is a strike centre, arguably the best there is. This is great, if only that it’s clear we are not content to just roll out a similar top20 players and collect the trophy.

Curtis Scott is a very good centre with a high ceiling. It all comes down to value on the cap, but he would be a good acquisition.

It was always a risk this could be blocked. Clearly the perception is that we can't afford Rapana under the cap for what he wants, so he goes to Japan to earn enough so he can take our lower offer. Definitely could have played our cards way closer to our chest. However, If Rapana comes back and soli...
