Re: 2024 Round 8 v Sharks: Teams and Previews *Teams p1*

I wonder if it is pride. Ricky definitely has that in spades but who’s he too proud to admit a mistake to? Us? I doubt it. The media? They’re not pointing out issues with selections. They never do. Lots of people claimed Ricky was too proud to admit he should’ve played Savage but he overcame it by ...

Re: Eels half Ethan Sanders agrees to terms with Raiders for three year deal from 2025

That’s the spirit Well come up with a counter argument then. I would say I’m being realistic. I agree it is our best chance but sometimes people need to not put undue pressure on young players as it is counterproductive I think it's impossible to say what will happen at this point. I agree, let's n...

Re: Eels half Ethan Sanders agrees to terms with Raiders for three year deal from 2025

That sounds an awful lot like the Eels have no hope left that a counter offer might sway Sanders. I suspect they were never in a position to go anywhere near countering the offer we made them, just to stay in reserve grade. If we're being fair. 11 years is way too long for anyone to hold any position without achieving success or without demonstrating a clear upward trend indicative of imminent success. The spine is the most critical combination and roster retention challenge in Rugby League. After 11 years, Ricky argu...

Between the terrible coaching, terrible junior development and terrible recruiting I'm surprised we've won a game. [emoji23] But I do appreciate the irony of this discussion happening in the thread about the Raiders signing the NSW junior Origin halfback from Parramatta for 3 seasons. I also loved t...

Re: Coaching issues

Yeah, I take Finchy's point but there are a few sketchy examples there. Dave Taylor's career was legitimately revived here as was Paulo's and CHNs. Leilua, Austin and even Adam Elliott also had their careers revived here, and let's not forget Charnze who went from a nobody to one of the best NRL fu...

Re: 2024 Round 8 v Sharks: Teams and Previews *Teams p1*

What Levi has demonstrated this season is below average qualities across the board for a starting NRL hooker.

Which is admittedly an improvement on previous seasons, where he was barely playing at NRL standard.

Re: Coaching issues

I also don't think attributing 'good' attack years (points scored) to Ricky's good coaching is entirely objective either. Looks how we scored most of those points - was it structured attack based on a targetted game plan to exploit opposition weaknesses, or lucky crash-ball plays coupled with sheer...

Which players have gone backwards since joining the raiders? That's the way you judge coaches/the impact of anything. Take a snapshot before, baseline. Then measure the improvement, the affect. Let's be reasonable here. Ricky haters, tell us, who's gone backwards? I'm not a "Ricky hater",...

Re: A new Canberra Stadium

Taxpayers are actually the people who pay! So asking them how much they’d like to see spent on a stadium is pretty relevant. They’re Commonwealth and Territory voters and taxpayers as well. Recently we’ve helped pay for a stadium in Townsville and about to fork out for one in Hobart. Maybe this jur...

Re: Coaching issues

It's absolutely ludicrous that people keep trying to paint our issues in attack over the last 10 years as merely personnel problems rather than inherently bad coaching and systems. CNK is the prime example of this, there's really not much else to be said that hasn't been said already. There's also ...

Re: Coaching issues

What is this ideal 'attacking structure' that everyone is referring to? I think many people confuse a backline that plays with depth as some sort of magical attacking structure. That's can be effective if you have elite speed on both sides of the field, but not so much if your centres are powerful ...

Re: Coaching issues

To some extent, which brings me to my one criticism over the dummy half selection and interchange issues. The recruitment of Hodgo transformed this club for a period, and we'll never know the full impact of the serious injuries to Trevilyan. That aside, it's an issue that will hopefully be resolved ...

Other than the Levi/Starling situation, Stuart is nailing his job this season IMO.

He's keeping a cool head and allowing his young players to come in with quite a simple game plan.

Re: Canberra Raiders make new offer to Eels half Ethan Sanders

While we have no real control here, Fog's injury now means the Eels would be simply blocking Sanders' NRL pathway if they held onto him. It would be interesting to know who Sanders' manager is. Often they have a bit of leverage depending on who their other clients are. Sent from my CPH2021 using Tap...

The young Raider set to replace injured Fogarty Jamal Fogarty still has to get scans, but the Canberra Raiders medical staff are pretty sure the halfback has ruptured his biceps. I thought Sasagi did an admirable job, but that right hand side in defence was all over the shop and Timoko suffered for it. In many respects it's just the nature of bringing almost an entirely new team together and expecting it to be cohesive from the get go. It's not going to happen. The injuries ...

Really tough game. Proud of that second half effort.
