Re: TPAs per club “revealed”

800k of the Storm deal is supposedly with Smith and I would think he could earn that without any dodgy dealings. You would think of any player he has a lot of whole of game deals as well. If I recall at its peak TPAs were 15m total on a 6.5m cap. It would be very interesting to see the historical n...

Re: TPAs per club “revealed”

Ok, it's a bit rich that there is no transparency around these "whole of game" deals that obviously require marquee players to be located in certain cities. Those arrangements should definitely be made public. I also think it would be more beneficial for the companies involved with particular player...

Re: NRL announces rule changes for trainers, endorses challenge system

Here's one for you on the 20/40... 20 metre restarts.... If i were coaching, my instructions to the team and Wighton would be very simple...A lot of the time the fullback is involved in chasing those grubbers... if a grubber goes into dead and it's a 20 metre restart the instructions are for wighto...

I feel sorry for Tonguey that the end of his career was diminished by playing out of position. x2 Did an admirable job in the role too, under challenging circumstances. I just don't think you should be labelling something a development contract when it is essentially just used as a second tier contract for cap purposes.

The whole salary cap system needs a complete overhaul.

They can get NRL permission to back up in the first half of the season if there are no players in the position available after injury/suspension. After 30 June they can be drawn upon if needed.

Re: Canberra Raiders sign Matt Frawley to development contract

It's a stupid system. What's the go with development contracts these days anyway? Are development contracted players only eligible for First Grade if all other players in their position are injured? If so, theoretically Frawley is eligible if two of Wighton, Williams and Williams are injured. Not en...

Re: Canberra Raiders reportedly interested in signing Matt Frawley

Yeah, it's not like Stuart is signing superstars to Canberra either. He is taking punts on Pommies, young kids like Tapine, Horsburgh, Simonsson etc and diamonds in the rough like Leilua, Rapana, CNK, Austin, Taylor and Oldfield - but at no stage has he talked about how hard it is to get quality pla...

Re: POLL: Canberra Raiders 2010s Team of the Decade: Five eighth

Campese managed to have two purple patches in his entire career and that was it - second half of 2008 and 2010. Outside of that, he was an ordinary footballer. Even in the first half of 2010 he was poor and that's reflected in our ladder position. It's little wonder that we were dross for so long w...

Campese had an excellent kicking game IMO. Had a great combo with Monaghan and his long kicking game was the best we had for years.

In all honesty, if I was picking a team of players over the last 10 seasons I'd have Wighton at 6 and Campo at 7. Campese was pretty much our halfback.

I had flashbacks to when he was our big of season signing. Dire times they were.
Back in those days the article would include a quote from Matt Elliott bemoaning how hard it is to recruit quality players to Canberra and then some Bull about cattle.

Re: POLL: Canberra Raiders 2010s Team of the Decade: Five eighth

Campo's 2010 was fantastic and I think he will in time be arguably our most under-rated player, but we don't make the 2019 Grand Final without Wighton playing the way he did. Hard to go past that, as far as this decade goes. Wighton has also probably overtaken Campo as our best defensive half since ...

I think the 20/40 rule could work in our favour. Hodgo isn't too bad with kicking them. No changes to the 1:1 strip rule, which is good to see I suspect they will be quite difficult to kick. Usually if you are pinned you're coming off your line. 40/20's as they stand tend to come off the back of qu...

Impossible to fairly rate, but he didn't look out of place out there. Obviously has a great attitude and is mentally quite tough playing his role at that size.
