Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2020

If Tuipulotu is the bloke I'm thinking of, he only played one game for the Roosters this season? If that was him, I recall watching that game thinking he was plenty involved but made a couple of errors and didn't make a huge impact with the ball. I reckon Valemei has more upside, but can't hurt to t...

Re: Your predicted Canberra Raiders team for next year?

What's the go with playing Jordan Rapana on the left and Simo on the right!? Irritated me no end last season. Wouldn't surprise me though. Anyway, I'm a bit terrified of a RHS defence comprising Harawira-Naera, Williams, Scott and Simonsson. Will see what happens. And there is no way we'll use a ben...

Re: 2020 in review - Corey Harawira-Naera

So we keep being told. All I was saying was that out of our entire squad Young is the bloke I'd put on the edge if CHN struggles next year. Apparently that's the equivalent of me saying I am keen to drop CHN and rearrange the forward pack to play Young in the second row because I think that's his be...

Re: 2020 in review - Corey Harawira-Naera

I'll never quite understand people's obsession with moving a player out of a position they're shining in, with the intention being that somehow it'll benefit the team. Young was crud as an edge player this season. He had little to no effect there, and many on here rightfully called him out. He then...

Re: 2020 in review - Corey Harawira-Naera

I disagree. Its extremely difficult to comprhend as a viable option to start the 2021 season given what we have seen so far, unless something catastophic happens to our two edge players, or Hudson Young suddenly emerges in pre season as something he's not shown so far in FG. To comprehend it with w...

Re: 2020 in review - Corey Harawira-Naera

As usual agree with pig. CHN is the direct Bateman replacement. He came in unfit and solved our middle third injury problems this season (Guler, Soliola and Hors long term injuries). That was simply a short term fix that solved several short term problems in one hit. If CHN doesn’t get flogged this...

Re: 2020 in review - Corey Harawira-Naera

Who says Hudson Young played poorly in the second row? All round he’s performed more strongly than CHN in 2020... Let’s see how they shape up in the pre season. I’ll go with Ricky’s choice. But there shouldn’t be a long leave pass given for poor performance for any player stepping into the second r...

Anyway, I saw some really good signs late in the season that CHN should be a good fit for our team, but I do have some concerns about our defence right across that right hand side. The defence is really the thing that gives me reason to pause on CHN starting in the second row. And I think Ricky Stu...

I'm also pretty comfortable using Young to spell either Whitehead or CHN at second row to be honest, although it will be interesting to see what Rushton brings.

Re: 2020 in review - Corey Harawira-Naera

Our right side SR spot and our two centres will be the most intriguing questions for Stuart to answer next season. I thought CHN looked enthusiastic and showed a lot of potential this season. Improving his technique in defence will be a job for the coaches, but I do think his hole hitting ability wi...

Hard to believe this bloke is our third string dummy half. Offers something completely different to Hodgo and Starling. Solid in defence with a genuinely powerful running game in short bursts. Underrated kicker too. Sometimes his service out of dummy half lets us down with a few too many passes goin...

Yes, maybe less rushing out of the line from Hodgo and more focus on delivering good clean ball and his kicking game ala Cameron Smith. The rest will hopefully come with fitness. Injuries and age are not on his side.

The club would be nuts not to play the majority of our games in this jersey. Including the Grand Final.

Stupid brand awareness considerations will play its part though. Canberra Milk will want to get their new logo out there.

Whitehead was outstanding this season. Form was as.good as its ever been for the Raiders. I do think the tough schedule took it's toll on him near the end of the the season. He was off his game at the back end and I think built up fatigue was the biggest factor. Yeah, I totally agree with that. He ...

Re: 2020 in review - John Bateman

Tough season for Bateman. At his best he is a solid defender and a world class x-factor in attack. His two best games were against the 14th and 16th ranked teams (and the worst two defensive teams in the comp). He averaged 150m with the ball in those two games and about 75m a game in the other 9 he ...

Great news. Fingers crossed for an injury free couple of seasons.

I remember being a bit fearful of our front row depth a few seasons back, when Papa was still playing second row and it was clear Paulo was on his way back to Sydney. Times have changed a bit.

Not a bad second string dummy half. Can't think of a better one in the comp TBH - nor can I believe he extended for 2 seasons. Incredible tackle efficiency given his size. Struggled a bit for consistency and impact as the year wore on - especially in the big games, but that is understandable given h...

Yep, at 25 he's just coming into his prime. Last year he had a few errors in him (including unforced ones), which were largely eliminated this season with 6 errors from 16 games. His tackle efficiency rate is great, his metres are good and metres per carry improving. He's either ahead or on par with...
