Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2024

Looking forward to the Roosters waiting to see which one of Stewart Strange Sanders kicks on, then buying them accordingly 😃

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2024

They aren't signing a 27 year old with 5 NRL games over the top of Chevy. It's him or bust. Well it's not even him or bust really, because we also have Weekes and Savage Corey Parker said recently that in looking for the next big young thing, clubs may be overlooking genuine talent in the reserve g...

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2024

Fuller is interesting, because it's directly related to how much we rate Chevy. Are we going all in on him? Or do we want to create competition in the fullback position? I doubt Chevy will be able to do what Fuller is doing now, by next year. Although that would be lovely of course. And surely Fulle...

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2024

The Dolphins are going very well for a second year club. Sadly they are more closer than us to a premiership. Their young HB Katoa has come on leaps and bounds and is not afraid to run the ball or throw a long pass, and it’s the best that I’ve seen Nikorima play. Fuller is playing well at the back ...

Re: Ethan Sanders signs three year deal with Canberra Raiders

Invigorating discussion. We are talking about Hail Marys here, pure and simple Somewhat, in that you don't really properly know until they're older and into grade. But you sign and invest based on *something*. There seems to be a train of thought here, unless I'm misreading it, that you don't know ...

Re: Ethan Sanders signs three year deal with Canberra Raiders

I guess the question for me for any young spine player is whether they'll be superstar, which I'd broadly describe as a top ten player of the game. I'm of the view that a team can and will be a huge premiership force, with 2-4 superstars and the rest more or less honest hard working, solid players. ...

Re: Canberra Raiders back NRL call to eliminate disrespect towards match officials

Annesley has just proven what I always suspected, that there's no point explaining the decisions to the public, because they just won't agree anyway. There's often a cry of "why don't they have to face the media and public, just like the players and coaches do.. " But it really just seems ...

NRL fans have become obsessed with the ref. Actually they always have been, especially on the hill at stadiums... but it's spread like wildfire to every comments section of every NRL social media post... it's become a farce

Re: Ethan Sanders signs three year deal with Canberra Raiders

Strange is not someone to build a team around imo. Galvin could be. My hope is that together with Chevy and the Colonel, maybe even add Savage to that, they form a formidable unit Strange I think is pretty nailed on. Even if he doesn't develop his passing and ballplaying, he can lean heavily on tha...

Re: Ethan Sanders signs three year deal with Canberra Raiders

Personally I'd still be playing Savage fullback, to rule out that he's not a gun there, while still allowing Chevy to develop and see what he can do. That's not the way the coach has gone though and I guess is a separate argument, Savage vs Rapana rather than Savage vs Chevy

Re: Ethan Sanders signs three year deal with Canberra Raiders

Chevy Stewart does have particular strengths. His ball playing, his running and stepping, his high involvement rates, unpredictability. I'm talking the core traits though: speed, agility, strength. I'm making the argument that the top tier fullbacks is recent times have been 10/10 in one of those, ...

Re: Ethan Sanders signs three year deal with Canberra Raiders

When I look back at the debut ages of some current and recent star fullbacks... it seems generally, you could see elite signs by 19 or 20. The late bloomer cases seem more anomalous. Chevy's 18 but he'll be 20 by mid next year, we should have a good indication by then My only "concern" is ...

It's a good problem to have, Weekes looking comfortable in first grade last week, and Cook shaping up to be a genuine halfback

7. Cook 1. Weekes still looks a bit reserve gradey, but might be less so over time

Can we play Cook. Even if we upgrade him. By all reports he was very good on the weekend . I know Weekes won't be dropped but for the dynamics, having an actual halfback would be better. Maybe slot Weekes onto the bench But we’ve been told before we can’t change a winning team*! (*except for the ti...

Re: Eels half Ethan Sanders agrees to terms with Raiders for three year deal from 2025

I don't have concerns about Chevy per se, I just think it's too early to make an assessment yet either way. As opposed to Strange, I think he's clearly shown he's up to it, despite his young age. You can interpret that as a "concern" about Chevy but that's not how it's intended

Kicking yes. I think back then I was comparing him to Thurston etc, who was more dynamic at running and passing. Cleary took a while to move on from just being an "organiser", didn't he? I can't remember. Still I was wrong anyway, so yeah lol

Re: Eels half Ethan Sanders agrees to terms with Raiders for three year deal from 2025

Stewart is the one I'm least sure of, out of the S's. Perhaps Dylan Edwards could be a model, mostly a hard worker and a good all rounder. But he's not really a superstar and gamebreaker. Then again I used to say the same about Nathan Cleary, that he's just an all rounder with no real strong point. ...
