Re: 2024 Round 6 v Titans: Teams and Previews *Teams p1*
Absolutely love the team thats been picked. Whether it’s Stick or others forcing his hands, these young boys need first grade experience and we’ll be better off for it giving them game time. With that said, we only have 4 guys with 100+ games. We’re lacking experience and whilst the younins have tal...

Well ****. Had all but the team on paper we wanted and they threw out that crap. Humbling as fans, albeit just realigning our expectations to what they should’ve been (were before the season started). Hopefully humbling to the players and coaching staff also. I think the makeup of our bench needs to...

Mr Machine, I like it 😂 the Whitehead call (and Hoppa and others) is what I mean about Stick picking his mates or picking players for sentimental reasons. Pick based on form. Stick and let combos develop. But don’t let mediocre performances not let legitimate people knocking down the doors in cup ta...

Mooney and Guler starting in Cup. Should give everyone, coaching staff and fans, an idea of where they sit in the pecking order. EDIT ie based on how they perform. Can see Mooney clearly outplaying Guler and being ahead of him

Agree on picking and sticking, but also following the panthers system of “next man in line”. Don’t pick for sentimental reasons, or because they’re “your mate”. Our Flegg and Cup team are both coming first, our juniors are doing good and Stick has said quite a few times that some Cup players are put...

Re: Raiders NRL Contracted Players - Updated 15 January 2024
With Whitehead and Rapa retiring at the end of the year, I feel we let Cotric go and don’t extend him. That frees up a fair chunk of cap space between those 3. Priority signing is Mooney. With Papa at the end of his career, we need a mixture of experience and youth in our prop rotation. Taps and Hor...

Our only challenge will be scoring points against Cronulla. Hope we win. I’m with you benda - have a feeling it’s going to be grindy. So far we are playing a lot better this year, but our attack still looks clunky and missing structure for the most part. I agree but we do look more fluent in attack...

Re: 2024 Rd 3 v Warriors: Teams and Previews
Agreed on Whitehead. Would be extremely disappointed if Ata dropped out for Horse over Guler or Saulo. He played right edge due to the reshuffles and still clocked over 100+ metres when he only came on in the second half. Much more than the other 2 (who played longer minutes). With Taps, Paps and Ho...

Re: 2024 Round 2 v Tigers: Game Day
I also thought Horse was round 4. He comes straight in for Guler. His errors and penalties and lack of any impact is easy to see and shows statistically. On the other hand, Ata passes both the eye test and statistics (over 100+ run metres in 9 runs). As others have said, I’d go Mooney over Saulo but...

Ahhh didn’t want it but can live with it. At least we know the centres are locks barring injury or suspension. We have Strange as a lock for now and Ata a lock. I’m hoping Savage is above Hoppa on the wing ranks but not sure. One change to a winning team. Hoppa will chew up metres but may leak point...

I like that 17 and agree with the comments on both Saulo and Guler. Guler has never recovered and has regressed since his 2020 injury. I can remember when he came into grade at the back end of 18 and during 19 and being super impressed with his upside. Now he’s just a reliable prop. Would be a great...

Re: Through green eyes 2024
Good write up GE. I didn’t see that much difference between Cotric, Savage and Hoppa. Sure the stats say Hoppa got the metres, but only the speed of Savage got that try. Cotric made some very smart defensive reads that shut down the play. Having them separated by a 7, 6 and 5 seems off. With a 3 pro...

The team picked won so well done coaching stuff, good game plan. Similar-ish to last year but with some X factor. Horse and Kris just make us stronger, hopefully it’s for Hoppa and Guler/Saulo. Whitehead to come back and share the role with Hosking, but hopefully a phasing out period. Hosking right ...

Same as most people, I’m happy with the side named although have a few personal preferences I would have different. Cup side looks strong too. Re: Canberra Raiders team for 2024
If we knew he could play 9 and the intention was only for 20 mins with him to get decent minutes roaming at lock/first receiver, I could see it. If we had an 80 minute hooker he’d be a lay up for my 14. Taking off the starting probs and having a rookie dummy half trying to get the bench props on the...

Re: 2024 Rd 1 v Knights: Teams and Previews
Good call. The upside of Mooney is something we may have mishandled as a club but based on the eye test I still have it as: Taps 1 Paps/Horse (take a pick) 2 and 3 Ata 4 Saulo 5 Mooney/Guler 6/7 Paps is on the way out so need to consider that and Mooney is hopefully considered the next in line Good ...

Fair call. I’d be happy with a 4 prop rotation like most sides despite our depth there. Let the boys fight for it. Taps and Horse to start. Paps and Ata to come on. That’s a helluva punch. Hosking is an upgrade on Whitehead but Whitehead will play (and can still produce a few moments and leadership)...
