The elephant in the room is that we are a talented but poorly coached football side.

Re: The sad truth about Fensom, Sezer and Wighton
Moneyball was all about analytics. I highly doubt that we signed Hodgson, Sia and Austin because of analytics.

Re: Sack the coaching staff
Stuart appears to have the players on side, so we are going to have to completely flame out for his job to be at any risk whatsoever. On paper we have our strongest squad in a decade. However, we look very poorly coached and are playing very dumb footy. Hopefully Stuart can turn things around in the...

Re: The sad truth about Fensom, Sezer and Wighton
Those guys and others arent playing well (e.g. Austin, Lee until this week). When a bunch of guys are in career worst form, maybe, just maybe, we have problems elsewhere. That our issues arent just that our players suddenly suck.

Re: No excuses
There is a distinct whiff of dejevu about this season. Our squad is better on paper than it was last year, which was a much better squad than 2014. Problem is on the field we dont look like we have improved all that much. Still early-ish in the season, plenty of time to turn it around, Im just not h...

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2015
The AFL draft definitely doesn't work...It is one of the most uneven competitions I have ever seen, and why would you want team tanking games at the end of the year to gain higher draft picks? It depends what you mean by uneven. If you are talking within season, a big part of that is simply AFL the...

Re: Can Blake Austin brush off second-year syndrome?
He was successfully targeted by opposition coaches who ran a lot of attack at him. Yes his form faded towards the end there, but I'm not so concerned about his attack as I am his defence. He really needs to improve his marking up, and to do that Ricky has to improve the daylight out of our defensiv...

Re: Blake Austin re-signs until end of 2018
Without actual numbers it's impossible to tell whether this is a good move, indifferent move, risky move or bad move. Given the amount of development Austin needs to do to become a top echelon half, 700-900k would be a risk. 400-500 not so much given he is much much more likely to return that sort o...

Re: Ricky Stuart
Problem with our defence is that the legs tackler arrives way too late. Two go high, but the opposition player keeps his legs pumping. Then eventually someone arrives to take the legs and it all goes pear shaped on the ground, all because we cannot effectively put opponents on the ground. They land...

Good despite the stats was kinda my point. The idea that the line of causality between good completions and being good has always been a bit suspect though. As we demonstrated this season when we adopted the kick on the second tackle, complete sets, give the opposition 70% of the ball strategy... P...

Re: NRL Draft 2008: Who would your team have picked?
The NRL are incapable of running a chook raffle let alone junior development. A draft system is a slap in the face to the Raiders who invest heavily in time and money in juniours. I'd much prefer the NRL do what their suppose to do, and that is run a competition which is supposed to be fair and equ...

Re: NRL Draft 2008: Who would your team have picked?
A draft would be great for us IMO. It's the one way to make the distribution of junior talent relatively fair, or at least reliant on a teams ability to pick out talent. Designed well (the mix of restricted free agency etc), it would absolutely suit us. Where do the juniors come from though? Americ...

What should work in our favour here is that there won't be any competition for Stuarts signature. We can wait until the end of next season to make a decision is we want.
