Yeah, of course, my mistake. Somebody mentioned him and TT together upthread and I didn't think on.

Re: 2020 State of Origin III - Teams and Game Day

Surely pointing out that Ponga and Tom T are still to return only highlights the issue. NSW already tried to shoe-horn too many play-makers in (hence Wighton and Gutho in the centres). With Ponga and Tom T available, how do you fit them all in (yeah, drop Gutho, but still...)? Actually, personally I...

Re: 2020 State of Origin III - Teams and Game Day

Good contest. No great refereeing controversies, thankfully. Deserved win for the Maroons. Especially considering the tries Holmes bombed. Jack is never going to have that much impact at centre, and Gutho even less, although as it turned out, they needed a spare full-back. Munster can take much of t...

Re: 2020 State of Origin II - Teams and Game Day

Much better from the Blues and Cleary stood up this week after the stick he copped from the first game. Still not convinced that Wighton and Gutho are going to be better than 'proper' centres, though. QLD leaving themselves repeatedly 3 on 4 was odd; that last try from Tupou, he went over without a ...

Re: 2020 in review - George Williams

I'm so pleased that George has gone so well. He's always had the raw ability, he was doing it as a teenager for us, but I hoped he'd improve his game in the NRL, and he has. As said upthread, the challenge next season will be meshing up well with Hodgson. And I am still so annoyed that Bennett didn'...

Re: Rugby League 2020

Well Wigan beat Huddersfield tonight to take the League Leader's Shield (minor premiership). In a shortened season, we have won more games than anyone else, and have played all the other top sides twice, which of our rivals have avoided. We now have a week off before taking on the lowest ranked surv...

Huge credit to QLD though. Agree. Before the game I looked at the teams and said if you were picking an Australian side from those teams the only two Queenslanders I would pick would be Munster and Papallii. And Gagai? That would be about it, though. Which must say something about NSW's disa...

My support for the Blues is largely due to them being the underdogs at the time I first started watching SoO, they were getting regularly hammered by QLD. And Wigan win 6-18 and go top of the table, :D snuffing the Saints out in the second half with superb defence. And the margin should have been bigger; Wigan scored four tries to one, but only managed one successful kick from the usually reliable Zak Hardaker.

For me, the Grand Final is about the only game where I get the Nine commentary, so never normally have to put up with Gould and Rabbits and co. All the Fox guys are better, but I can't say the commentary is such a big deal for me. You always have the option of turning the volume down. The game is th...

Gutted. I switched off after the final whistle; couldn't bear to watch the rest. The officials didn't cover themselves in glory, it's certainly fair to say the Panthers didn't get the run of the ball, at the very least, in the first, but compensating for that by allowing that kick from Yeo (who had ...

Wighton's had a great season, and as noted, he can still improve in the position. The thing about Croker, as I see it, is that if you go back a few years, he seemed to be regarded (rightly) pretty much by everyone as a complete turnstile. Bur he worked on, and improved, his defence, and people stopped talking about it. Now those defensive frailties seem to have re-emerged (or is ...

I agree. I like CHN, he was good at his last club in the very poor side, surely he could do a few more minutes? Young has shown a lot of improvement this year. Just BTW, anyone else notice, although they are not that much alike, commentators frequently seems to get Young and Williams mixed up!
