Re: Canberra Raiders release George Williams immediately

Only just seen this news, and it comes as quite a surprise to me! I fully expected George to see out this season at Canberra. As did he, it seems.

I agree with HKR. As long as he doesn't end up at Warrington!

Re: 2021 Rd 11 V Storm: Game Day

11 games played and we look like we came together in the car park... Spot-on. All the worse cos I recognise my own team's failings this season; that could have described us at the weekend. Difference is, Wigan have won all their league games so far this season, largely by dint of not having met the...

Re: George Williams homesick for England?

Homesick for some northern ****. You have to have been there to know how dire it is.. Well obviously I don't share that view, but I only live here. My take is that George will continue to give it his best shot with the Raiders this season, and be back at Wigan in 2022. As long as he continues to gi...

Re: 2021 Rd 10 V Bulldogs: Game Day

Another hard watch. So, slightly better than the Bulldogs, then. George did OK, and most of-the (few) good things in attack came through him. He never liked goal-kicking at Wigan, and I don't imagine he does now either, but doing OK on that front. Can't argue with Papa's red, really, in the circs.

Dunno if you guys saw, but Blake Austin is being shopped around; seems like no-one wants him. Warrington's expensive spending forays recently haven't really paid off: Austin and Widdop have never really looked convincing except in the odd game. Neither have impressed English fans.

Wow. At half-time I thought, two ordinary teams, but at least George is looking lively... But these seconds halves; you just can't look past the coach, can you? Despite the Raiders dismal second half record,it never occurred to me that they'd lose. largely because, Newcastle aren't all that. And the...

Re: George Williams homesick for England?

Just to say,as others have, Bay53 is spot-on with his post. Few summers back, George used to come in my local pub. As you say, he is just a working-class lad like all his mates. And with a pregnant g/f, it can't be easy right now. He is a quality player, and I believe he could still offer more to th...

We all know perfectly well why obstruction is reffed as it is in the NRL. OK, there are occasional inconsistencies, but still... It is done the way it is precisely to as to give a black-and-white inflexible rule, and take it out of the hands of referees' 'interpretation', as much as possible. Becaus...

Jordan Abdull is just about my current favorite rugby league player. He’s built like a modern day forward but just has such a great kicking game. He’s probably a bit slow to make it in the NRL as a half given his size but **** he’s a great club player IMO. He's a bit of a throw-back to the old days...

Re: Super League 2021

What a shame for Leigh, possibly deserved a win after leading 18-0 at one point. Wigan win 20-18. As we say in Wigan, it's Leigh's Cup Final, and for them, it is, and they throw everything they have into it. And they did. But we still won, and are now joint top after a solid win against Hull FC, no...

interested in this, cos naturally how GW fits into the side is my main point of interest. First off I'll say this: as it happens, I watched 80 mins of Sezer the other day playing for Huddersfield. I just felt when the Raiders don't even have their much-vaunted forward dominance though their pack, they just looked all the more a pretty poorly-coached side. passing seldom looks sharp and slick, either in attack or in midfield (yes, other teams manage to do that!), and how many kicks when over t...

I just watched the game. And I don't think the score flattered the Eels, who were by far the better side, obviously a sobering thought for Raiders fans (although many of you had clearly feared it), as Parra are one of the top sides you hope to measure yourselves against. Luai is a very instinctive footballer and leader on their left with and without the ball. It is a pleasure to watch him play. He is a terrific player. The thing about the kicking game is, George has never had a good long kicking game and I don't think he's going to develop one now, although on his day, his short-kicking game is up with the best. Wighton has a much bigger boot, and his long kicking can be very effective. I did get the sense today t...

As usual I find 15 pages of comment by the time I see the game! I thought the Raiders bounced back well from the disappointment of last week. Cracking contest, I don't see any reason to worry too much, though. it probably came down to that 'forward' pass. Perenara looked well=positioned, but it still looked forward for all money. My two-penn'orth is that I don't think either of the halves had great games; as remarked upthread, the balance doesn't look right. And George didn't seem as secure in defence as usual. Hi guys! Very much enjoyed the start of the season. The Raiders didn't hit the ground running like the Storm adn Roosters did, and looked pretty clunky in that first half. Surely pointing out that Ponga and Tom T are still to return only highlights the issue. NSW already tried to shoe-horn too many play-makers in (hence Wighton and Gutho in the centres). Good contest. No great refereeing controversies, thankfully. Deserved win for the Maroons. Especially considering the tries Holmes bombed. Jack is never going to have that much impact at centre, and Gutho even less, although as it turned out, they needed a spare full-back. Munster can take much of t...

Much better from the Blues and Cleary stood up this week after the stick he copped from the first game.
