Re: 2022 Rd 8 V Warriors: Game Day

Further to the strategic value of losses this season, there's also the moral point. Meaning, it's quite simply wrong that a team playing such lobotomised, inept and ugly football should ever win a game. I hope we lose every game this season, and become the cautionary tale about teams and coaches tha...

Re: 2022 New halfback?

Sorry, haven't been on the forum for a while. Has there been talk of just shifting Hodgo to half (Starling starts at hooker)? When Hodgo came into first receiver a few times last night, I thought he looked a good fit...and of course, he'd have to have a double leg amputation to play worse than Sammy...

Re: Is Stuart the right person to take us forward?

A coach and team are in a marriage of sorts. Sometimes, the only solution when things aren't going well is to file for divorce. More often than not, a bit of soul searching and a renewed commitment will do the trick. Ricky doesn't need to leave. he just needs to realise that the uber conservative st...

Re: 2020 Finals Week 3 V Storm: Game Day

I think we pray too often at the altar of the mystical notion of "form". Humans are not fungible widgets, but coaches would do better to behave as if they were. That is to say... Rather than asking if so and so is "playing well", let us interrogate his essential attributes. Is he...

In 2020, our outstanding halves + Papa and Taps have papered over the awful truth...we are a middling side, playing a gormless, soulless brand of football. Our coach is an infuriating confection of outstanding man management coupled with dour tactical conservatism. Our team defends with tenacity, bu...

Re: Jordan Rapana set to sign new two year Canberra Raiders deal

I'm sorry to say this, because I love Rapana's whole-hearted commitment to every game, but his decline over the last couple of seasons has been precipitous. He's lost a ton of pace, his evasive skills are gone, he doesn't have the power to bust tackles anymore. The mind is willing, but the flesh is ...

Bashing through the middle works a lot better later in the game against already fatigued forwards. The mistake is trying to do it in the first twenty minutes while they're fresh. Now, I know people will say, "but you have to do the work in the first twenty to earn the right to go through them l...

Agree with other posters. Tapine was definitely an 8...he's ripping and tearing through the defense every hit-up these days, and with tackling efficiency at 100% he's doing everything you could ask of a forward.

I love it when we offload and we have the players to do it - Papa, Bateman, Dunamis, Tapine. Playing more expansively makes us more unpredictable and compensates for our lack of pace. Williams bombing is putrid. He'd easily be in the top 4 halfbacks for kick try assists this year. Entitled to make a mistake here and there. Morris has run down or outpaced with the ball some noted speedsters this year too. Definitely still a flyer. Roosters are what I'd class as a very quick team overall. I think Sutton's a really good player. Not a superstar, but he's the type of guy who quietly racks up a good 150-200 NRL games as a #2-3-4 middle depending on the quality around him. Can be a #2 in a bad team, but ideally a 3-4 in a contender. Just a good professional middle who does his job and wo...

True and I think we do that play a bit too often. It's OK as a settler in the attacking zone when you're organising the next play but I think we do it too often in midfield when we should be trying to get a roll on in the ruck. Agreed. It can be a good play if the line-runner gets a decent run-up (...

Stats from last week have Williams with 52 possessions and Wighton 47. Kicks were 10 and 9 respectively. Suggests a fairly even split and with them playing left and right there's no bias showing.
