Re: 2022 Rd 8 V Warriors: Game Day
Further to the strategic value of losses this season, there's also the moral point. Meaning, it's quite simply wrong that a team playing such lobotomised, inept and ugly football should ever win a game. I hope we lose every game this season, and become the cautionary tale about teams and coaches tha...

Re: 2022 New halfback?
Sorry, haven't been on the forum for a while. Has there been talk of just shifting Hodgo to half (Starling starts at hooker)? When Hodgo came into first receiver a few times last night, I thought he looked a good fit...and of course, he'd have to have a double leg amputation to play worse than Sammy...

Re: Is Stuart the right person to take us forward?
A coach and team are in a marriage of sorts. Sometimes, the only solution when things aren't going well is to file for divorce. More often than not, a bit of soul searching and a renewed commitment will do the trick. Ricky doesn't need to leave. he just needs to realise that the uber conservative st...

Re: 2020 Finals Week 3 V Storm: Game Day
I think we pray too often at the altar of the mystical notion of "form". Humans are not fungible widgets, but coaches would do better to behave as if they were. That is to say... Rather than asking if so and so is "playing well", let us interrogate his essential attributes. Is he...

Re: 2020 Finals Week 3 V Storm: Game Day
In 2020, our outstanding halves + Papa and Taps have papered over the awful truth...we are a middling side, playing a gormless, soulless brand of football. Our coach is an infuriating confection of outstanding man management coupled with dour tactical conservatism. Our team defends with tenacity, bu...

Chickens coming home to roost. In a moneyball competition, we're still picking beloved plodders like Rapana and Crocker. We deserve everything we're getting. Hard to disagree. We have a good side but a major issue in the outside backs . Hopefully we have some good juniors come through next year Har...

Re: Jordan Rapana set to sign new two year Canberra Raiders deal
I'm sorry to say this, because I love Rapana's whole-hearted commitment to every game, but his decline over the last couple of seasons has been precipitous. He's lost a ton of pace, his evasive skills are gone, he doesn't have the power to bust tackles anymore. The mind is willing, but the flesh is ...

Bashing through the middle works a lot better later in the game against already fatigued forwards. The mistake is trying to do it in the first twenty minutes while they're fresh. Now, I know people will say, "but you have to do the work in the first twenty to earn the right to go through them l...

Agree with other posters. Tapine was definitely an 8...he's ripping and tearing through the defense every hit-up these days, and with tackling efficiency at 100% he's doing everything you could ask of a forward.

Re: 2020 Rd 16 V Bulldogs: Game Day
I love it when we offload and we have the players to do it - Papa, Bateman, Dunamis, Tapine. Playing more expansively makes us more unpredictable and compensates for our lack of pace. We won't go around the Roosters with edge defenders like Joey Manu and Morris but can go through them through footw...

We also have to accept that Croker is not much of a threat with the ball anymore. Good defender, ace goal kicker. Decent hands but he ain't breaking the line. Agree he's not a threat with the ball. Sides will keep attacking our right edge as long as Scott is parked there doing his best impersonation of a deer in the headlights. I hope his injury keeps him out for a good while. Re: 2020 Rd 15 V Titans: Game Day
Williams bombing is putrid. He'd easily be in the top 4 halfbacks for kick try assists this year. Entitled to make a mistake here and there. His bombs are horrible and the main weakness in his game (I rate him highly). He seems to be in 2 minds when receiving the ball on the last as whether or not ...

Williams had a shocking game - his last tackle kicking and organisation needs to improve, I love it that Williams played probably his worst game for us...and he still played better than the halfbacks we've been stuck with the last few years. Morris has run down or outpaced with the ball some noted speedsters this year too. Definitely still a flyer. Roosters are what I'd class as a very quick team overall. The general point about cumulative speed - I get it. No good having one quick guy because if he's in support he can only go as fast ...

We need extreme pace in our backline somewhere. Pace is an accumulative thing...if all your outside backs are quick but not express, that's fine. The cumulative effect is that the backline functions as if everyone is faster than they might actually be as individuals (Roosters are a good example of ...

Re: Dunamis Lui: The journeyman who found a home
I think Sutton's a really good player. Not a superstar, but he's the type of guy who quietly racks up a good 150-200 NRL games as a #2-3-4 middle depending on the quality around him. Can be a #2 in a bad team, but ideally a 3-4 in a contender. Just a good professional middle who does his job and wo...

Good point. Recapturing lost condition isn't that easy mid-season. Hopefully, a few kgs lighter and a bit fresher, he'll regain some of his mojo.Northern Raider wrote: ↑August 20, 2020, 8:38 am Give Jordy a full preseason with the team I reckon he might bounce back a little on his speed and agility.

Yeah that's a good call, we've done well to get guys like Guler into the club at 17-18 and develop them and hang on to them. Point is we've improved our recruitment because we've found ways around it, not because we're suddenly attracting the Tyson Frizzell's and David Fafita's of the world Yep. It...

True and I think we do that play a bit too often. It's OK as a settler in the attacking zone when you're organising the next play but I think we do it too often in midfield when we should be trying to get a roll on in the ruck. Agreed. It can be a good play if the line-runner gets a decent run-up (...

Stats from last week have Williams with 52 possessions and Wighton 47. Kicks were 10 and 9 respectively. Suggests a fairly even split and with them playing left and right there's no bias showing. In other recent games the William/Wighton possession counts were Cowboys: 43/57 Bunnies: 50/41 Rorters:...

HSS isnt known for being a speed demon though. My understanding of the kid is he's got speed on a similar level to those we have in the team now, and he's stylistically more of a Croker type over say a BJ type (as in he'll beat you guile more than he will with speed/strength)... but i admittedly ha...
