Re: 2019 Preliminary Final: Teams and Previews

How Joe Tapine became part of Canberra Raiders folklore Joe Tapine admits he wasn't necessarily trying to alter the course of Canberra's season with his tackle in the 77th minute on Josh Addo-Carr, but that's exactly what he managed to do. "He just spun off and the ball popped out, I saw BJ had the...

Re: Canberra Raiders forward Luke Bateman re-signs on one year deal

Great news. Love Bateo and he is a lot better player than may on here give credit for. I think most people rate him quite fairly tbh... definitely not a better player than people give him credit for. Maybe a worse player than what the guys who overrate him think. But fine as a low wage squad filler...

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019

If we didn't have guys like Simonsson and Smith-Shields with very good prospects pushing for starting spots, I'd be inclined to go for a player with a higher ceiling than him. But considering the position we're in, I'd definitely support a signing like this.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2019

Ikuvali would be a good signing. Wouldn't command big dollars at all and he would provide good competition for spots as he's a winger/centre. He's had to work hard to get a start in the NRL and he's not young by NRL standards. A signing like him wouldn't keep younger guys with bright prospects out o...

Re: Canberra Raiders forward Luke Bateman re-signs on one year deal

You need low wage players like him to fill out the squad - he's got experience, he knows the team and the system, and seems to be a good trainer. That's the type of player you want on the lower end contracts... you want a combo of guys who fit that description and young guns with potential to develop.

Re: Canberra Raiders forward Luke Bateman re-signs on one year deal

If its a min wage or near min wage 1 yr deal, im ok with this. Experienced depth can be invaluable. And make no mistake, the club and player know this is a depth deal. Agreed. If it's close to min wage I've got no issues here. It was frustrating when he was a regular in our 17 but it's clear that t...

Re: Canterbury Bulldogs want to sign Canberra Raiders centre Joey Leilua

Those saying BJ is the best centre in the game are forgetting about Latrell. Like it or not, he is #1, so at best BJ is #2. I did take Mitchell in to consideration which is why I said "arguably", definitely didn't forget about him. Although personally I would have Leilua over Mitchell. Mitchell has...

Re: Canterbury Bulldogs want to sign Canberra Raiders centre Joey Leilua

I don't think Rapana is the type of winger who can command big money these days particularly at his age and I'd be fine with him going if we can't get the right price. Leilua is arguably the best centre in the game and deserves a decent contract... I would be trying a bit harder to hold on to him th...

in fact as per the NRL judicary Code Of Procedures: Onus and Standard of Proof 72. And that's a fair point. Except that there was no evidence of contact with the eye, he denied doing it and the alleged victim denied it happened. There is not a court in the world that would convict on that basis. Absolutely zero chance. I think Young is a straight out dirty player. I believe that ...

What's the penalty for 'attempted gouge'? Surely the breach in that case is 'raking the face'? The point is a good one. The NRL judiciary is a kangaroo court in every literal sense of the term and they can get away with it because the general rugby league fan is either poorly educated or went to school in QLD, and therefore has little understanding of what a judicial system actually is ;)

It could be argued that he's developing in his position but I was still expecting $500k+ based on the kind of money we've thrown at guys like Blake Austin in the past and on the type of deals fullbacks usually sign.
