Re: 2024 Round 20 v Warriors: Teams and Previews *Teams p1

This is what I've been banging on as well. The recruitment of juniors, who come here for an opportunity to play FG and on good money, is good strategy. But that's only part of it as there's no certainty they will be successful. You need to recruit experienced NRL FG as well. We have the cap money t...

Re: Maguire

Last night was actually the ultimate example of Ricky-ball. Super high effort, desperation, bleed blue, very simple gameplan of forwards working over their counterparts and trying to make some space late in the game for some individual brilliance. Very defensively focused. But that kind of effort an...

Bloody hell doc that’s horrible, not just for the leg but for the head. Make sure you’re looking for another outlet. I was off running for 2 weeks post UTA with a cortisone injection and nearly lost my mind. Bought a cheap rower and cut a big hole in my shoe because I couldn’t stand sitting around. ...

Re: 2024 Round 18 v Knights: Game Day

The last 20 minutes was peak Ricky’s raiders football. The players had spent 60 minutes playing uninspiring football trying to avoid burpees, and had to chase points, but every time they tried something they looked lost. Attack came from shuffling the ball wide through hands (positive) while none of...

We didn’t sign Hodgo as a star. Ricky has publicly stated he’d never heard of him but Mullholand made it happen. We got bloody lucky with the way he developed here, easily the most influential player of the Sticky era.

I’ve come to the conclusion over the last decade or so that Ricky is one of the great NRL managers. He is also currently one of the worst coaches. Over his time here as coach he has continued to lean further into his strengths, but has shown no real indication or intent of working in any of his wea...

Re: Coaching issues

Maybe some budding coaches can explain to me why we have a tendency when we are loosing to completely do away with line speed and just walk forward in one line. I haven't noticed any other team do it. I get going back to basics and present a defensive line but not even moving forward just seems odd...

Re: 2024 Round 15 v Cowboys: Game Day

The other point I would make is how slow motion and choreographed our attack looks. It's like we must have three crash balls, then a spread, then another crash and a kick when in the opposition 20. Strange is really the only one in the spine who plays whats in front of him, Weekes to a degree as we...

Re: 2024 Round 15 v Cowboys: Game Day

We go through this year after year. The players we have in the spine aren’t elite level, most of our squad aren’t elite in their positions. Ricky is absolutely top notch at getting a team to buy in and try, but that only works sometimes. And while the players aren’t elite level, they very rarely are...

I believe we now have enough promising talent on the roster to be able to view any potential starting player through the lens of “can this guy contribute to a premiership?”. This was inevitable. But all those asking who else could we get - I ask another hypothetical. If Ricky were sacked, which club other than the raiders would be chasing his signature? I would say it would be an exceptionally short list, if one at all. Now with that in mind, why bother with a 4 year co...

I agree with the comments around strange straightening a little, but it’s damn hard with either the slow speed of service from dummy half or the combined slow service from dummy half and 13… it’s taking away a lot of his space and time to engage the line properly.

I don’t disagree with that at all, some very promising signs moving forward. In 2026, Strange, Sanders and Chevy will still only be 21 years old.
