Re: 2024 Round 3 v Warriors: Game Day

Let’s hear about how, in a very tight and physical game, we completely wasted our first interchange by giving Whitehead a ceremonial run around before bringing our most in-form player on?? And then late in the match we doubled down on ceremony and put Smelly back in the middle when the game was on ...

Re: 2024 Rd 3 v Warriors: Teams and Previews *Teams p1*

Strange and Fog have had high tackle counts both weeks. I guess teams are seeing a weakness there or trying to avoid the middles. Left and right edge defenders were a serious weakness of the raiders last year due to a couple of players making bad reads or lateral inefficiencies. Toots and Jack are ...

I think a run in NSW Cup is not necessarily a bad thing. Just wish it was Guler not Ata Guler didn’t play a single game of cup last year according to RLP. And now Ata’s been dropped and Guler is playing Even as a public defender of Guler it pains me to say at this stage (and it could change) Guler ...

Dropping Hosking and Mariota....not naming Horse. So much inconsistency with the old "picking on forn" spiel. Hmmm that is a fair point. You could throw in the "winning team" that was used quite a bit last year to justify selections. This is a continual theme though. Depending o...

Re: 2024 Rd 3 v Warriors: Teams and Previews

The thing is that props regularly stand out when shifted to the edge because they are bigger bodies running at backrowers and halves.

What was impressive was his defence out there, which isn’t always the case with props out wide that lack the lateral mobility that Ata has.

Saulo still isn't bending the line, he revs up but just doesn't seem to be able to handle the initial contact like our other forwards. I actually think it’s pretty easy I think he’s flat out a better player right now than both. No development needed But it’s a winning team and winning well. Re: 2024 Rd 2 v Tigers: Teams and Previews

I think one thing this shows is that Ricky Stuart is faultlessly a man of his word, and it is unbreakable. Only problem is, last year when he promised Hoppa he wouldn't lose his place in the team if he went to his sister's wedding it appears he's taken it all too literally. In 2038 Hoppa will be th...

It is a very pleasing win and really does give us credibility as a club. Anyway, that's a very good team named. Some well deserved selections in Strange, Savage, Cotric and Smithies. Interested to see Papa start. I genuinely thought Mariota might have been given a crack. Hoppa is a seat warmer for Kris, so I'm not too fussed about that one. Hopefully he can tackle, but ...

The more I hear comments from within the club the more I think Stuart will be going with something like this: 1. Rapana 2. Hopoate 3. Strange 4. Timoko 5. Cotric 6. Weekes 7. Fogarty If so, this is essentially the team he left 2023 with, with just Weekes replacing Wighton. Remember, Strange played ...

Re: 2024 Rd 1 v Knights: Teams and Previews

I still think the answer at dummy-half is Woolford starting and Puru spelling him for 20 min or so in the middle from 14, but that plan also involves Puru getting some serious Number 9 development under his belt in NSW Cup. Good shout. Keen to see how our NSW cup coach goes in that development role...

I’ll have a go for the editor: * overly compressed defensive line allowing wingers to go around untouched. * throwing excessive crash balls in good position * not knowing the rules of the game and putting a foot over the dead ball line after catching it. So a few errors were made when our B grade s...

The interesting thing that people don't seem to acknowledge is that finals football is different from NRL. We play a style that works in big games. The issue is that consistently ‘playing to your strengths’ also consistently consolidates your weaknesses. Watching the Parra game, our halves didn’t touch the ball until the 5th. We don’t distribute through them, therefore removing the ability to create through them. Our locks pass more than our ha...

We (infuriatingly) play a very different game to most with our spine. There was a moment in the first half where we were in the attacking half for 2 sets and the only time a half or fullback touched the ball was a last tackle kick. Off the back of that the eels made it into our end, and the halves h...

If this happens then objectively the only way Smelly makes the 17 is through the sympathy vote as there are more players in all options that are better suited it better performing than he is. Stick started Toots in cup last year in a mentor role so that’s not out of the question either.
