Re: 2024 Rd 4 v Sharks: Teams and Previews

I don’t see where Puru’s future is. He is too small to play exclusively as 13 in the NRL. I could see him playing a 2nd hooker/lock role similar to Havali but you would have think if this was his pathway we would see him playing some 9 in Cup. Currently we have too many average hookers blocking up ...

Raiders are above sharks on the ladder at the moment, but as the pundits have been saying we have to remember that one of Raiders wins was only against the lowly Tigers.

Health and fitness

First week of the fire recruitment course down and we had our fitness testing yesterday. My fitness is towards the lower end compared to the rest of the squad, but I was around where I expected to be and passed the beep test which is the test that counts most. Was happy with how I went for what my u...

Been smashing Paul Dempsey lately on Spotify. Prefer his solo stuff over Something For Kate. This cover of Edge of Town in particular https://youtu.be/GTCufN_IvZE?si=ZAuxfGVRxETkPEIM Yeah, I also prefer his covers over his original stuff. I had Edge of Town and Sweet Nothing in my top 10 covers list

Average set metres
Parra 37
Panthers 55

Average ptb speed
Parra 3.44
Panthers 2.8

Panthers have been good at pinning the side down their own end
Eels have done well to score with limited opportunity

Yeah, looked fitter in round 1 than we have for the opening month of the last several years, usually Raoders start slow and build into the season peaking late.

TBH I don't recall Smithies doing anything particularly notable out there. Any line breaks, tries, tries assists, huge metres or post-contact metres, big hits, insane tackle counts, offloads, etc? He held his own, but so did the likes of Ryan Sutton when he was here. Not sure it was a point-worthy ...

I still find it ridiculous that salaries aren't transparent to the fans, yet it's perfectly acceptable to have several articles like this every year from journalists who speak to player managers about each player's salary.

The main thing tigers have going for them this match is that we're still in the receptionist rounds, there were a lot of upsets last week. Would back raiders (or pretty much any side except maybe titans) to put them away

Hosking’s dream debut When Zac Hosking signed with the Raiders, it looked unlikely he’d break into the starting 17. But after a calf injury to captain Elliott Whitehead, Hosking was thrust into the run on side and delivered on club debut. The Raiders have previously been in the market for an edge f...

Asomua is locked in for top 30 in 2025, 2026.
In 2024 he's on a development contract, so I don't know how much that'd weigh in for him to hold down a starting position for an extended period of time this year.

The way I see it
Early in the season at least Hopoate is first in player in to cover for left centre/left wing if they are out.

Schiller is first choice for right centre and I'd guess also right wing until Asomua is considered ready.

Re: 2024 Rd 2 v Tigers: Teams and Previews

The tactic of Fogarty being the half with all of the ball worked for game 1, but continuing that tactic means teams can easily put a lot of pressure every 5th tackle when they know who is going to get the ball. I think Strange will need to get ball moving forward, particularly with Kris coming back ...
