Re: Jack Wighton to join South Sydney Rabbitohs in 2024
Perhaps the primary reason Wighton wants to move on, though, is the most obvious — he doesn’t want the responsibility of five-eighth because he’s a left centre with arguably the best left-foot step in the game. Wighton has been shuffled from wing to centre to fullback and then, in 2019, to five-eig...

Re: 2020 Rd 12 V Cowboys: Teams and Previews *Teams p1*
Based purely off on-field displays it’s too early to write Curtis off. He had three perfectly fine games. Everyone was happy. He then looked average for four games, during a period in which the whole team looked average. It’s not as though he was losing us games on his own, but he had a number of in...

Re: 2020 Rd 12 V Cowboys: Teams and Previews
If Scott isn’t being considered (injury or otherwise) I see no reason Sticky won’t back HSS for a start just like he did Semi. Bateman is a walk up start in his preferred position after what he’s done there. I’d only consider moving him if: - Due to further injuries, god forbid, there’s no other opt...

Re: Canberra Raiders centre Curtis Scott may be heading to Canterbury Bulldogs
Listening to the audio it doesn’t sound that solid to me. Read merely speculating that Bateman may have to return via the centres (unlikely IMO) making it difficult for Scott to break back into the team.
Certainly doesn’t sound as though a mid season transfer is imminent.

Re: 2020 Rd 11 V Rabbitohs: Teams and Previews
The back half of the season has us up against current top 8 opposition in only 3 of 10 games. Assuming COVID doesn’t change things up, this is a very strong position to be in in terms of consolidating a finals spot. It does make pushing for top 4 (which should be the goal regardless of the current i...

Re: Bateman confirms he’s heading back to Wigan Warriors in 2021
I’m glad this is over and I’m glad he’s going back to England as opposed to an NRL rival. I like to think John’s focus will now turn to leaving his mark on the NRL forever and going home with a premiership. Knowing the competitor he is, I’m confident he’ll stop at nothing in his quest to make that h...

Re: OFFICIAL: Bateman 'won't be at Raiders in 2021'
I’m not criticizing either Bateman specifically as we don’t know the full circumstances, and I certainly don’t begrudge a player trying to maximize their earnings over a short and physically debilitating career. I do however think the argument of “clubs don’t show loyalty to players, why should play...

Re: 2020 Rd 6 V Sea Eagles: Teams and Previews *Teams p1*
Gotta say, watching the Eels and Panthers the last couple of weeks we'll be finding it hard to land a top 4 spot unless we lift our game dramatically from our last 2 outings. I’m actually thrilled to see the likes of these two and Newcastle holding down top 4 spots at the moment. I’m not convinced ...

This also makes me question all the charity work Sia has done as being incredibly irresponsible. If you suspend the comp now no telling when/if it resumes. IMO best to allow the Warriors to exit after Round 2 (hopefully temporarily) and call all games draws (even if a stand-in team is brought in). Separately, I actually think there’s some merit to the “Darwin solution”. Relocate the teams and p...

I think you could make a case for at least a few more of our players e.g. Cotric, Tapine, Croker in the bottom half of that list but the glaring omission for mine is Whitehead. No way in the world are there 50 players ahead of him.

Re: Canberra Raiders recruit Curtis Scott faces NRL stand down unless he hands over video footage
I can’t really argue with the NRLs stance here. In discretionary cases like this where the alleged offenses aren’t serious enough to warrant automatic stand down it all comes down to potential for damage to the game. The relevant points in this situation, and where it differs from some others, are t...

No idea how this stuff works, is anything likely to be determined on March 20? If yes, surely no fault stand down is the safe option from the NRL given there’s only one real game between now and then anyway.

If Scottric happens in 2020 (and I kind of hope it doesn’t as that will likely mean BJ has left early) I think it’ll be pretty successful. I rate Curtis and so do plenty of people in the media it seems, would not surprise me in the slightest if we see a Scott/Cotric edge combo lining up for NSW at s...

Re: Wests Tigers consider signing Joey Leilua from Canberra Raiders
I think the characterization of Leilua as volatile/erratic etc in some of the media is pretty unfair. He makes the odd dumb play but he’s been consistently and overwhelming great in his 4.5 seasons in Canberra. 2x Dally M centre of the year even after injury robbed him of last season in which he was...

As controversial as it was, if you have to lose a Grand Final this is basically best case scenario as far as I’m concerned. We got a thrilling game. We got to watch our team deliver on the biggest stage. Jack Wighton won the Clive Churchill medal. We outplayed or at the very least matched them and E...

Not that ladder position is the be all and end all at this stage but with the Roosters and Storm facing off this round a top 2 spot if not first spot should be up grabs for us here.
Wouldn’t that be something at the quarter season mark.

Happy with this. Hodgo/Baptiste was an excellent combo. Baptiste coming off the bench with his speed and energy and Hodgson shifting into that hybrid running forward/first-receiver role provided genuine impact on plenty of occasions. And regardless, the squad needs another hooker. None of Havili, Hi...

Re: Croker for the wing
I don’t mind the idea not because I think he’ll necessarily be a better winger than centre but simply because it would allow Cotric and Wighton to play at 1 and 3 or vice versa and seamlessly switch them as required during a match. For example Wighton could defend at left centre most of the time sho...

I have no idea what Wighton’s done but would be gutted to lose him. He’s dynamite. One of the most frustrating things about this is the large amounts of money involved. I think it's worth close to $100K to play in an Origin series? Giving that to someone who is out of form but has "been there before" out of some misguided sense of loyalty is absolutely corrupt. BJ has ea...
