Re: Through green eyes 2024
I think it depends on the purpose of the rule change. If the change is designed to protect a player or to remove a negative tactic, then most people are happy with that. The changes that are designed to improve the spectacle of the game are often more hit and miss (typically based on the side-effect...

Re: Parramatta Eels still hoping to hold onto Raiders target Ethan Sanders
The GOAT debate is always very interesting. Even in a sport where individual performance (like tennis, golf, darts or even cricket) can be objectively measured through statistics and outcomes, there is often argument around people's opinions (mostly when comparing players of different generations). ...

Re: 2024 Round 5 v Eels: Game Day
Not having a pop at individuals, but the fact that there are some pining for Hoppa over someone like Schiller on a wing - it makes you wonder philosophically what has happened to the game of rugby league. For 100+ years, wingers were your offensive weapons. The guys who could finish and score point...

Re: 2024 Round 5 v Eels: Teams and Previews *Teams p1*
The middle rotation, which should be one of our strengths (it's certainly identified as the biggest strength by the media), has been pretty disappointing the last few weeks. As many frequently point out, the use of the bench hasn't been effective. Having looked at the first month of games, this is t...

I think the Sharks trainer should be tasered. Or be forced to watch 12 continuous hours of Raiders grindball highlights I like the cut of your jib. PS what's a jib? PPS does PJ work for NSW police? So, we play well when our starting, rep-standard middles are on and then fall apart when they're off the field. Picking up again when they return? Certainly not the only problem with the team, but I'd say it's pretty influential.

Seeing how genuinely bad that bench is, I came up with a great game... Pick Stick's Bench Switch Assuming we run out as 1-17 and no major injuries during the match: 1. 23 minutes = Guler off, Mariota on 2. 52 minutes = Tapine off, Guler on 3. 57 minutes = Woolford off, Starling on 4. 63 minutes = Ho...

This kid with the kicking game comparable to Stuart. Does he have a name/has he played at a high level for his age group? He does indeed have a name. Having just read the Dane Eldridge article, attempted satire or not, I can see why Stuart reacted the way he did to the final question in last night's press conference. I wonder if it was Eldridge who asked the question? If a) making the decision, and b) announcing the decision early, has attracted ...

When Ricky Stuart said Kris had played a lot at fullback in juniors, my first thought was that I didn’t think so. Maybe he played fullback at club level. Anyway I don’t mind a bit of historical research… and for the Raiders, he’s very clearly been tried in the role, but was switched out of it prett...

Re: 2020 Rd 7 V Cowboys: Teams and Previews
To me, our biggest issues are: 1. Conceding easy metres between the 20m lines. This is typically poor attitude, line speed or technical issues (ie. conceding offloads or falling off tackles). This occurs when the opposition attack is more enthusiastic than our defence. Should be easy enough to fix w...

I suspect that the preferred positions of the three players have been the cause of game time this season. Valemei appears to be a specialist winger, and therefore has been given the prolonged opportunity in that position. As specialist centres, I think that Stuart would rather the opportunity to giv...

No worries RedRaider! His defence was excellent at the 15s carnival, from memory (this was in 2015). Great lateral mover. I've never heard anything but positive reviews about him on his progression through the juniors.

With a number of predictions of the Clive Churchill Medalist doing the rounds, I thought it would be interesting to look at the history of the award by position and see if this determines the thinking around who will receive it in 2019. Re: Raiders express interest in NWRL entry
I think the NRL is getting this pretty right; you have to start somewhere and build from that. What people need to bear in mind is that most women playing in the NRLW have only really played Rugby League in their adult / late teen lives. Junior girls competitions are still in their relative infancy....

BJ played in a grandfinal with the chooks back in the day. Very true. I wasn't looking that far back, but I'm sure the memory of 2010 should help Leilua over Gagai. That being said, Souths are 4 v 3 in the starting 13. Furthermore, by swapping Papalii and Soliola (ie. Soliola v Burgess and Papalii ...

No, M. Seemingly two different people. Ennis appeared to almost confirm with Johns on the post-show last night, when Johns was mentioning the rumour. Kind of back-pedaled and then the topic was changed really quickly. That was my take anyway.
