Re: 2024 Canberra Raiders NSW Cup
Not saying he is anywhere near the same quality, but Cook reminds me of Scott Drinkwater. He really has become an excellent ball player at this level.

Re: 2024 Round 9 v Sea Eagles: Teams and Previews
Our pack’s inability to deal with outside backs coming back through the middle has been an issue since 2020, and is due to playing too many similar body shapes. We need someone with more lateral speed and mobility in there asap, Trbojevic will destroy us otherwise.

Re: 2024 Round 8 v Sharks: Game Day
Are we ever going to learn our lesson regarding different body shapes in the pack? Any time we play a team with a decent back 5, we struggle to contain their footwork and speed in the middle (exhibit A, any time we play Penrith). This is partly because of the same body shapes in the middle, we need ...

It won’t happen but I do wonder if Puru would be more useful now with his ball playing given neither half will be able to get ball consistently on the outside.

Probably already posted somewhere here. But anyone with an Honest (non sarcastic or unfair) assessment of Weekes NSW Cup form, style of play and how well he will go this weekend? Has been a victim a little of being 18th man so hasn't had as many minutes in Cup as he would like. Adam Cook and Woolfo...

Savage has been good with yardage carries, but it’s absolutely crucial Seb Kris and Timoko help Schiller and Stewart as much as possible with getting out of our end. I have been a little disappointed with Kris’ involvement, at Fullback he was very involved with yardage, and should be aiming to do si...

Brailey showed the importance of a good 9 in getting the forwards a roll on. He’s not even that good, just compared to the absolute dross from our side in that position. Forwards couldn’t get a roll on.

Re: 2024 Rd 4 v Sharks: Teams and Previews *Teams p1
Some random thoughts: * Two relatively unheralded reasons for our solid defence to start the year: our completion rate, and Fog’s long kicking game. Both put us in much better territory resulting in far less defensive pressure, fatigue. * This is potentially the best backline we have had in a very l...

I watch most games every weekend. Including the warriors. He is decisive, quick hands and accurate hands **** last year he even hit a few cut out balls to his winger in structure. He was and did none of these things with us. He was a handbrake. Ball died in his hands far too much. Which is why many...

I don’t mean to be rude, but other than finals games did you watch the Warriors last year? CNK was hardly a ball playing machine, his game was very similar to the way he played for the Raiders. He only recorded 3 additional try assists compared to 2019 and 2020 (6 vs. 3), and honestly, having Shaun ...

There are big issues with Levi. It isn’t “much of a muchness’. He overplays his hand constantly, but lacks the guile and finesse. The forwards struggle to generate momentum from him, he doesn’t play a simple game, he tries to engage markers but often confuses himself and his forwards. Worse, his att...

Re: 2024 Trial 1 v Eels: Teams and Game Day *Teams p1*
An enjoyable watch. A few points: * I don’t think there is a clear winner between Strange and Weekes, though I would keep in mind the reason Manly didn’t give Weekes opportunities in the front line was his defence, and he missed a pretty basic tackle leading to a line break in this game. I would put...

Re: Jarrod Croker confirms he won’t be taking off the lime green tracksuit any time soon
I (respectfully) disagree, in this case. I think there can be an over emphasis on corporate speak like KPIs, roles etc. Yes, there needs to be some of this (and I am very keen for it to apply to things like assistant coaches) but going too far down this road you end up with 17 cookie cutter clubs wi...

I was open to Maguire's hiring and thought he could do a good job. I only watched highlights of the final, so not going to specifically comment on Fog's game, suffice to say it's pretty obvious he needs help if we are to genuinely contend. I stand by my original post in that he is the guy that has been hung out to dry a bit in this team. I thought his kicking game...

While I think Stuart erred big time in hiring an assistant coach who is essentially exactly the same as him, I think he has to be commended for his record in the last 5 years. Making finals 4/5 years is a decent return for our club, even though I think we have been incredibly lucky this year, the re...

Re: Coaching issues
I have said it once, and I will say it again. The club erred big time hiring Madge this year. We already have enough "old school" coaches with Stuart, Frawley. We needed diversity, we needed fresh opinions. Stuart puts plenty of trust in to his assistant coaches, and we needed new, young, ...

I still can’t get my head round Saulo over Mooney. It’s crazy stuff. Agree with some of the above sentiment that it’s the perfect opportunity to debut Strange. Afaic the only way you can do it is to move Wighton to fullback. I think that would make the team quite a bit better. It makes even less se...

A really frustrating re-signing. A couple of Super League clubs sniff around and the club panic-extends a player who is absolutely surplus to requirements. What makes me laugh at this is some people still believe the narrative that he signed for a club, owned by a bunch of multi millionaires, for 800K. If the NRL actually cared about the integrity of the salary cap, they would look into some of the dealings involved with this, including but not limited...

What a frustrating game: * We have won a few games this year off calls going our way (Titans game, for example), so to now complain about a referee’s call as the reason we lost is lame. It’s equally lame to attribute it to Croker’s goal kicking, when we have won close games because of it. Eventually...

If we make the finals, the only thing preventing us from getting blown out in week 1 or 2 is a major signing in between now and then. David Fafita and/or a fullback, otherwise we are toast. Great write up as always, GE. It doesn’t take a genius to work out the Hoppa/Croker combination on the left lacks speed, we’ve all been saying it since the Broncos game. Dunno if Queensland was smarter but they were definitely tougher.
