Re: 2019 NRL Finals Week 2 - Teams and Game Day

Smith is such a grub. From signing two contracts (and refusing to show any remorse for cheated premierships because his team "worked really hard" as if the other 15 teams in the comp were not), deliberately attacking Croker's injured knee in 2016 off the ball, helping bring the grapple tackle/wrestl...

Re: 2019 Preliminary Final V Rabbitohs: Teams and Previews

Definitely Liam Knight. He will get time for that. I thought Souths were incredibly lucky to get away with the win. Before Jake Trbojevic was binned, all the momentum was with Manly and Souths looked gone for all money. That was a game changer. Souths weaknesses: * Edge defence is the obvious one. O...

Re: 2019 Preliminary Final V Rabbitohs: Teams and Previews

We were heavy favourites at home in 2016 AND 2010. Despite injuries, both games we were certainly not at 100% attitude wise, and expected the big crowd to get us home. The guys MUST start fast with their defence and bring the crowd and atmosphere into play.

Re: If you were Seibold, fix the Broncos roster

The Broncos are such a horribly balanced side - they were extremely lucky to make the 8, as this year there was a huge gap between the Top 6 and the rest. Their roster management has been horrible. They are spending 1m on Milford, 800K on Boyd and 800K on Bird. You would say they are getting about 5...

Re: 2019 Finals Week 1 V Storm: Game Day

No doubt at all Whitehead should have been binned. Croker, I am not so sure. He goes for a strip, is unsuccessful, then gets his hand caught (side note - going for a one on one strip after conceding a line break might be something to try as it slows down the play the ball considerably). Would have b...

Re: 2019 Preliminary Final: Teams and Previews

I hope we have learnt a lesson from both the 2010 and 2016 home semi final losses. Admittedly we were unlucky with injuries in both games (Campese and Hodgson), but even still - there was an element of complacency with the big crowd at home. Stuart said the right things in the press conference, I ha...

Re: John Bateman - Best first season in Raiders history?

Finch made an interesting point last night (probably his first this season): Bateman can play any style. If the conditions are poor and it’s all down the middle, he can do the grinding style and the tough stuff. He can play expansive and flamboyant with his passing and footwork in better conditions....

Re: Through green eyes 2019

I thought CNK came up with two really important defensive plays. One with NAS on his double movement, and the other when Chambers kicked through for Vunivalu. Both times, his presence prevented tries - good positioning. He was unlucky not to have a try assist too. He dropped that bomb, but to be fai...

John Bateman - Best first season in Raiders history?

Wasn’t sure where else to post this - is this the best debut season from a recruit in the club’s history? I wasn’t born for Mal’s first year, so not sure how it compares. I am shocked at Bateman’s impact, it has really been unbelievable and way beyond anything I could have hoped for. Defensively he ...

Re: 2019 Finals Week 1 V Storm: Teams and Previews *Teams p1*

Young missed 6 tackles last week - that won't be missed this week (Source: Big League Magazine). Sezer and Jack missed 5 each. I still want to see our defenders driving them backwards from their first set. That will be an indication that we are really up for the match. Couldn't agree more. First se...

Re: Hudson Young suspended for eight weeks

My point of view remains the same - it was a grubby act that deserved more than it got, but in terms of what he was actually charged for and the evidence presented, he should have got off. Having the head of the judiciary (the “judge”) telling the panel to essentially disregard evidence is a farce, ...

Re: Hudson Young suspended for eight weeks

Besides, most people I know - if they were eye gouged, they would not want to be testifying on behalf of the grub that did it. Wonder if Burgess asked Farah to testify? I genuinely think Pompey did not believe he was eye gouged.

The head of the judiciary cannot be giving the panel instructions before they deliberate. It makes a complete mockery of the supposedly independent process.

Re: Hudson Young suspended for eight weeks

Gus Gould on his podcast totally up in arms about the process, particularly the head of the judiciary telling the panel to essentially disregard Pompey’s testimony. Agree 100% with him. Again want to say - the result is correct (if a little light), but the way it came about and the process was flawed.

Re: Hudson Young referred straight to judiciary

I think Young can count himself very lucky with that outcome. 8 weeks is on the lower end. I think a trial game counts, so given we are most likely to play 3 more games this year, he will only miss the first 4 rounds of next season, which is very lenient. Not sure what he was thinking, whatever the ...

Re: 2019 Finals Week 1 V Storm: Teams and Previews

In addition to their right side defence and potential weakness with no traditional halfback, their bench forwards (other than Brandon Smith) are not at the same level as their starters, particularly with no Welch. Horsburgh is important - he and Tapine would form a pretty solid prop rotation once th...

Re: 2019 Finals Week 1 V Storm: Teams and Previews

This is going to be extremely tough, and we will be deserved outsiders. However, there are real weaknesses with the Storm. Firstly, their right side defence has been an issue all year (it is why Hughes was brought in for Croft). Even with Hughes there now, it is a new combination on that side. Jack’...

Re: Sack Hudson Young

Have to say I agree. He’s a young guy and got the benefit of the doubt the first time (which was actually his second after doing it at Mounties), but this was absolutely disgraceful. Don’t want to support a team with someone like him in it.

Honestly - if Hudson Young ever plays for the Raiders again I will be shocked. To come back from 5 weeks off, talk about “maturing”, and doing it again. He’s got a screw loose. Bring Guler in, who has played NSW through his teens and doesn’t do any of that rubbish.

Yep, there's no way you drop Hodgo and rush Rapana in for Kris, that's complete lunacy. Makes no sense on so many fronts. If you want to rest Hodgson, I think it does make some sense experience wise. You have 1 less player in their rookie season to worry about, since you are bringing in Starling. E...

Given Stuart has kept Starling and Rapana on the extended bench, you would have to think they are some chance of coming in for Hodgson and Kris. Might be: 1. Bailey Simonsson 2. Michael Oldfield 3. Jarrod Croker (C) 4. Nick Cotric 20. Jordan Rapana 6. Jack Wighton 7. Aidan Sezer 8. Josh Papalii 14. ...

Re: What's your preference: Storm or Roosters for the first finals game

I’m surprised at people’s reactions to the game last night. The Roosters should have had that wrapped up by half time - they bombed three absolutely certain tries, dropping balls over the line. They were missing their best playmaker in Keary, and, they had nothing to play for. They will be significa...

There is no right or wrong answer collectively. Ideally we come out hot as hot can be, get up 20 points in the first hal...
