Re: 2019 Rd 15 V Eels: Teams and Previews *Teams p1*

I would be looking to target Brown and Moses on the edges, a lot. This is usually the case against halves of any stature, but a quick shift to an edge will earn us a fast play the ball to come back through the middle, targeting Mahoney. Will be a good thing to try if we are struggling for metres at ...

Re: Wighton, Papalii selected for Origin II

Thanks for the article above, GE. The GPS doesn't lie! Jack really was amazing in that game. I saw most outlets gave him a 7 or 7.5/10 but his effort was worth more than that in my opinion. 150+ metres from a centre in an Origin game without a line break to inflate the stats is a fantastic performan...

Re: Wighton, Papalii selected for Origin II

Looking at the Queensland forwards, if Horsburgh puts in a good few months to end the season and start next season, he is in for a big chance to be selected as a bench forward for the first game next year. Their bench was horrendous. Can someone explain the "Glasby is such a good Origin defender" n...

See this every year for my birthday in Rozelle, with my wife and her family. This year when I yelled "go the Raiders!", he even did an impromptu rendition of the "Green Machine" song. Did not know he was a Raiders fan until then. Absolutely love this show, get out and see it even if you don't win th...

Re: Cotric, Wighton, Papalii selected for Origin

NSW dodged a bullet with Pearce being out. They have a much better chance with Maloney. Some of the commentary around the side has surprised me. Other than the first 20 minutes, NSW were far, far off the pace in game one and the scoreline flattered them. There were 2 or 3 last ditch defensive effort...

Re: Cotric, Wighton, Papalii selected for Origin

Picking Mitchell Pearce is so New South Wales it isn't even funny. The guy forced 1 repeat set in his 18 Origins. A single repeat set. All this talk of "but he was playing against a great Queensland side" - the fact is, New South Wales were often in positions to shut games out in that streak but cou...

Given the injury and 16 days between this game and Parra, wouldn't be shocked to see him play that game before (particularly with the bye the following week).

Re: 2019 Rd 14 V Sharks: Game Day

Really good win given the circumstances. A few points: * Havili has done incredibly well filling in for Josh, but we really need Hodgson back. Without him, we rely far too much on Wighton for our attack. I hope this game shows everyone our clunky attack in the 20 is not always due to Hodgson overpla...

Re: 2019 Rd 14 V Sharks: Game Day

Bateman and Cotric have a huge job to do in defence on Graham and Xerri, but the good news is in attack we should cause them some issues. Sezer needs to give them good, clean, early ball. We should have some joy going through the middle to make metres with our faster pack, then look to hit that righ...

Re: Cotric, Wighton, Papalii selected for Origin I

There are some whispers that Wighton might start for NSW game 2. Fittler wants to sure up the defence on that side, and was apparently impressed at Wighton's running in his few carries. Not sure how I feel about it - one the one hand, I think defensively he will be amazing for NSW. On the other, I f...

I am not sure if anyone else at the game saw this - on that last play just before half time, I saw Bateman SCREAMING at Klokstad, absolutely giving him a serve. You can see a bit of it on the TV coverage as Sutton takes it up in the corner of the screen. I commented to my wife that I didn't know wha...

Re: Cotric, Wighton, Papalii selected for Origin I

Queensland deserved to win. They were clearly the better team, the second half especially. Klemmer and Vaughan were good, but having them both off at the same time did not help Cook. Haas is young and will be better for the run, but I really feel like NSW needed another prop on the bench, or used Fr...

Re: Cotric, Wighton, Papalii selected for Origin I

Cotric was solid and did not put a foot wrong. Papa was Queensland’s best forward - in that second stint his defence was amazing. Jack had some decent energy - obviously the intercept was horrible, he did well to get on the outside of Chambers, should have taken the tackle and got a quick play the b...

Re: 2019 Rd 12 V Bulldogs: Game Day

Very impressive to get the win with 6 starting players (Leilua, Rapana, Hodgson, Cotric, Wighton, Papa) out. I don't think we get close to winning that in the last 2 seasons - full credit goes to the coaching staff for the depth added to the squad, before the season I thought the recruitment looked ...

What a silly thread. I have said before that Croker is not a rep level centre, but he is very solid and reliable at NRL level. He is a little out of form at the moment, but he has enough runs on the board to get back into form in first grade. In that last play from the Dogs last night - you can see ...

Re: 2019 Rd 12 V Bulldogs: Game Day

Not sure where all the confidence comes from. While it was only a trial, their "spuds" comprehensively outplayed us in that first half. In both 2017 and 2018 they were much better than us in the away games (we were lucky to win that 2018 game). We are missing 6 of our best players responsible for th...

Re: 2019 Rd 12 V Bulldogs: Teams and Previews *Teams p1*

Given Stuart's comments, most likely is Bateman and Whitehead starting in second row, with Tapine coming off the bench as a middle forward. I worry about Tapine's fitness playing at second row, he needs to be at his best defensively with a rookie centre on one side and Sam Williams on the other.

Really hope it doesn't happen. He is not ready for that, they just need to keep it simple for him, bring him on for 25-30 minutes in the middle. He might grow into a role like that, but he isn't ready now. I guess some chance Fittler uses him in the halves to start the game to try and be solid in de...

Re: 2019 Rd 12 V Bulldogs: Teams and Previews *Teams p1*

I really think putting Bateman out at Centre wouldn't be the craziest thing to do. Just makes us that little bit more solid, and protects his eye more than having him in the middle.

Fair enough points. As I said I didn't see him as poor as that for the most part, what I think happened was he did have a few poor or below par games where he wore the brunt of it all even when there were worse performances in blue jumpers. Then it became a thing to basically harp on and on about h...

Re: 2019 NSW Origin team

I'm happy with the side selected. I thought NSW might be a middle short on the bench as well but I think Freddy wants that mobility and agility in the defence to contain the running games of Ponga and Munster. At the risk of being absolutely slammed I will say i'm disappointed that Pearce was ruled...

Decided not to write this in my emotional disappointment yesterday but alas, still holds true after I've calmed down from the loss. The claim that Croker should play origin is laughable. Ivan Cleary has managed to try absolve the Penrith debacle this season on the sex tape stuff at the start of the year. Would the players involved in that even have been in 1st grade? Re: Canberra Raiders Origin chances

Alexander just posted an article on "Player's Choice" which strongly hints Cotric will get selected on the right side. If he has a good game against the Cowboys at centre, I think that is where he will play.
