Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2024
Hosking was close to the best player in the comp pre-injury! Small sample size of only 5-6 games but the guy was walking on water at the time. I can understand the argument that, given his age and number of career games, he's no world beater but it's a bit harsh to call him a bad signing. I think he...

3 - Tapine. Usually you look at his running metres but in this game he was everywhere in defence. Made some cover tackles, kick pressure, laid on a couple of shots. He worked his ass off in this game.

Re: 2024 Round 25 v Panthers: Teams and Previews *Teams p1
So if we think Weekes is actually going to be FB and Rapana on the wing, does Hoppa get dropped? Does Kris get dropped and Hoppa play centre (hope not)? Or do one of the backs move to the bench and Sasagi get dropped (as he should)? These last minute reshuffles are such a ridiculous and unnecessary ...

As if Strange has a calf injury. It's always a "calf injury" when the mastermind drops a player but wants to protect their feelings. Ricky naming his son on the extended bench is the cherry on top. I called the Jed promotion in preseason and was assured I was off my rocker. 2025 year of t...

Re: Every NRL club’s best buy since 1998
Hodgson for mine. Tapine has obviously been a great buy but he wasn't that influential during our good years of 2016 and 2019/2020. In the last few years he's really blossomed into a great prop but it's during a time when our team is average at best and no threat to any of the premiership contenders...

Re: Raiders looking to re-sign Xavier Savage and Kaeo Weekes
I think Kris was looking like a very complete player in 2022 when Croker was out for most of the year. He was scoring tries from grubbers and bombs, setting up his winger and on a few occasions really cut loose with his running game. He has all the tools to be an extremely good centre and when he's ...

I think there's a pretty solid chance that Ricky doesn't have a plan for him and Cook rides the pine for 80 minutes, unless there are injuries. The next most likely option is that he'll play a bit of hooker. Hopefully to replace Starling (NOT pushing Starling to lock).

Re: 2024 Round 23 v Sea Eagles: Teams and Previews
The fact Horse is being allowed to shop himself around, shows you how good Smithies has gone and like S82 said will probably only improve. He’s not going as bad as some peoples ‘eye test’ would have you believe. That's a weird take. Hors is being allowed to shop himself around because he's been unp...

Re: 2024 Round 23 v Sea Eagles: Teams and Previews
Honestly, I think the club just needs to admit their mistake and move on from Smithies. He doesn't have what we need from a 13. His ball skills are poor and he's too small and slow to be an effective ball runner. His defence is ok but nothing special. He's just not 'it', and having him try to be so...

Re: 2024 Round 23 v Sea Eagles: Teams and Previews
Cook is a far better investment than Levi, give him the #14 or yes shift Strange to centre for a while. Could live with either Hate to see a player injured and I'm sure he tries his best but Smithies has to go. It was terrible coaching to try to make him of all players, a ballplaying 13 When he act...

Levi, Starling and Smithies all on the field at the same time is not the way to win a game of football in the closing stages. Idiotic coaching.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2024
I like Horsburgh as a player when he can actually get on the park and stay there. It would be hard to argue that we've gotten good value out of him over the years though. Certainly we did in 2023, and I do recall he had another good year going back a bit further - maybe 2019 - but not much inbetween...

Trent Barrett is going to be moved on from Parramatta. Ryles is coming in and bringing is own assistant coaches so Barrett will be jobless and I'd like to see the Raiders make a play. One thing about having Seb Kris back is I hope this means Xav will return to the left wing. Rapa to the right where he has played most of his FG career for us. I'm sure there was a reason for switching Xav out of the left wing, but it didn't prove to be a good one. Glad to see Fog and Hosking strai...

Our hooker situation sucks, it is what it is, but at least it's pretty clear that both Guler and Hoppa have fallen out of favour. That's something. I hope Hosking gets some decent minutes and I hope Fog isn't too rusty. Last week Rapana said that the young guys have gotten some good experience the p...

Re: Kaeo's future
I don't see why he couldn't be a pretty effective centre. Hamiso has shown a good blueprint for a smaller body with good speed to excel in the centres. Croker made a career at centre out of being a great kick chaser. KW doesn't strike me as a winger but if he's not going to be our fullback in the fu...

You lost me at "Guler is retained". How that makes the list of moves the club needs to make to improve is well beyond me. He can share the catapult. He’s currently the only prop at the club aiming for a strong carry and quick play the ball by finishing on his front and doing it on any tac...

This feels like a puff piece after being rejected by Stefano to say "it's cool, we had Papa's replacement in-house anyway" haha. All I'll say is we'd better have a few middles exiting the top 30 if we're adding yet another one. Papa is still here next year and we've got Myles Martin coming...

Cook stays even if Fogarty is back. Strange shifts to center if that’s the case. Puru gets the rest of the year at 13 no matter what. Guler is retained. Either play with only Starling or Trevilyan comes in for Levi and starts. Hopoate is catapulted to whatever purgatory style club we sent that one ...

Re: Emre Guler reportedly seeking release from Raiders at end 2024
Music to my ears. Guler has been a complete dud most of his career after showing plenty of promise in 2018/2019. He never kicked on and it's been a fault of Ricky's to continually select him over the years. We have a lot of dead wood in the squad and this is a step in the right direction. Whitehead,...

Cook has signed for $500k a year. Just like when Mahoney went to the dogs for $600k and Api went to the Tigers for $700k, we're absolutely nowhere to be seen in showing any interest in capable upgrades in the position that we most need to upgrade! Very frustrating as a fan. The stupid question that ...

I'm really not confident that we'll beat the Tigers and that in itself is sad. 3 props on the bench is not helping us, neither is our dud of a 9, and Cotric and Smithies are giving us nothing. A large number of the team are extremely pedestrian. Kris is a good player but he's having a stinker of a y...

It's a shame because he made some good runs and upped the tempo when he came on. But you can't be mucking up simple play the balls when you're on the fringe and expect to be considered in a near strength side. Hopefully he learns from it. I agree. People, don't engage on the DL rubbish. Seriously. Now onto the topic, Savage 100% deserves an 8.He had a great game on both sides of the ball, with the try, setting up the Kris break, that big driving tackle, great yardage and defusing everything that came his way (0 errors). He was fantastic. Also...
