I know many on this site are wary of getting ahead of ourselves before we show we can string great performances together. But seriously after this how can anyone doubt we can win the whole shebang this year. Lets forget about all the crap that has gone on in the last few weeks, and focus on the next four weeks. We can do this boys (and girls) - lets get this thing going. **** I love the Canberra Raiders. What a great bunch of blokes we have in our side.

Deep breathes indeed. We played amazing today but it was against a team that was awful. Lets not forget last week.

take it easy there champ, we are a long way behind Manly and Melbourne yet and the Broncos showed us last week that we have to aim up EVERY week, not just at home.

But I am enjoying this win and that euphoric feeling that comes with it.

We cant take it easy yet, there are 2 more away games that are games we cannot slacken off for; Souths and Cows are dangerous at home while the Knights will be tough next week and its only a matter of attitude that will see us lose again this year.

Our aim should be 6th. that way we are assured second week of the finals and I hope that would mean Shark Park week one of the finals.

People keep saying this...

"...the opposition were terrible..."

but seriously, you can only play as well as your opposition lets you. We made the MOST of every opportunity we had. God knows we've been in the duldrums plenty of times in the last 4 years, but (aside from THAT Newcastle game) we've never leaked those sort of points.

How about giving credit where credit is due? Sure, we'll play better teams than what Penrith presented today, but there's no doubting that we are incredible when we're on our game. To say that our opposition were horrible really detracts from our performance.
I remember a time where, if our opposition were playing badly, we'd still only win by 4-6 points. It is refreshing (and FARKING ENTERTAINING) to see us capitalise on everything available.

Kudos to Campese. Always loved him, never knew he could shoulder the responsiblity so well. He is the form five-eighth in the game right now, as well as the most improved player in the competition.

I'm so happy right now.

Why is it when we beat somebody the opposition is woeful :cmon , come on we put 74 on them , Ive seen teams play bad but dont get annilated by 62 points. The Dogs were bad , the Titties were bad , give our team credit , we made them look bad then put on 74 points as well as we did with the other teams. Last week the score didnt reflect the game , the Broncs were awesome and defended really well , but i feel that game came at the right time for us as we would of learnt so much from it.
There is no reason why we cant go all the way , yes we have to maintain the recent form and probably step it up against manly or the storm , but I'll tell ya something they will not be taking us lightly , as the Broncs didnt last week and how'd did they go this week , they looked flat , coincidence I think not.

Lets enjoy what our team is showing on the footy field , we can only play whats infront of us , and if you look at the players that are missing from our FG squad , the recent feats of our team just look so much more spectacular.

I'd like to think that if we make it to 6th and get to the second round of the fimals with his sort of form we can beat anyone.

As long as we don't play Melb or Man at home all should be good :thumbsup

If we play like this against some very average teams over the next 5 weeks is it mathematically possible for us to finish higher than 6th?

I don't think it's that outrageous to float the possibility of the team going 5 from 5 to close out the season.

I am estatic, but worried about the crowd. 6,000.... That has to be the worst for any team of the season. :(

The Roosters who are coming 4th are on 30 points so I think it is out of the questions we can pass them. The Broncos are 5th on 27 points and would need to lose two games while we win every game. Mathematically possible but their hardest games are against the Knights and Titans which you would expect they would win. It is a funny game though.

If everything stays as it is 6th would play Cronulla in Cronulla.

honestly,i dont care where in the 8 we finish, every team knows what we are capable of.just listen to wayne bennetts comments last week.we are playing awesome attacking footy that has every commentator talking and our defence has really picked up as well.this is the best we have played for years imo.it is great for the players to finally get some recognition as most of them are playing their best footy of their careers.i was one of the ones who wanted toddy to stay at all costs but i have reneged and i really am starting to believe we do not need all the **** that goes with having him at the raiders therefore we are better off without him.with campo playing great and herbert getting better each week things are really looking good for the future :D :D
we have yet again proved every critic wrong
i wonder if they still have us at spoon faves next year?

The weather didn't help! i was there though...and i thought the crowed was very loud...

but 6 500 is disapointing. we need to get at least 15 000 for the knights game! come on people get out there and support this great team of ours!

The only teams assured for the second week are teams 1 & 2, the two lowest placed losers exit in the first week.

Great Win, but consistancy has been a problem so far this season. And unfortunately its true the opposition were not up to scratch today. The Raiders were flying before playing Brisbane last week and were toppled.

Melbourne is still head and shoulders above everyone else. And wining away from home is needed to win a Premiership from 6th.

And, if we finish 6th, and register a win in the first week of the finals, we will have a HOME elimination semi-final.

We could be looking at a Grand Final Qualifier.

*slaps his face* Don't get too far ahead...

Sorry to burst your bubble, but if we have a "home" elimination semi-final, the game gets played in Sydney!!!

The forecast today was for wind, rain and snow with a top of 7 degrees.

Radio commentators before the game claimed that it never got above 4 degrees.

Doesn't matter if you live in Canberra or not - only the most ardent (or dumb...like me) fans would consider going to the football in those conditions.

Given Manly and Melbourne look really strong, you'd think so. But there are many cases in the McIntyre system where Team 7 beats Team 2 and 6th place is out the door on the first weekend.

I'm going to get some serious karmic retribution I'm sure, but I'm going to say it... we're a contender. We are IMO only behind Manly and Melbourne on CURRENT form.

Also.... if we did, somehow, win the 2008 premiership - and I'm not saying we will, but we could seriously scare some sides on the way - wouldn't it be just the best fairytale league has seen? :thumbsup It would certainly be the shot in the arm the game needed.

Can anyone actually confirm what the deal is here? I've heard different things. Would we get the game at home or not? And can someone please provide a source for their information as I can't find anything.

http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/article ... 02479.html is the best I can find to explain it.

The second round of the finals is a "Home City" round. Unfortunately for us, the NRL don't classify Canberra as a "city", so our game gets played in Sydney (probably the SFS). Newcastle suffer from the same disadvantage.

I think we'll definitly make the finals but the problem is going to be the closer games.
The game against Brisbane indicated that we can match it with them but have trouble maintaining intensity when things get tough.

Fellas im a believer as well, cannot be more proud to drive around in my raiders number plates, if we dont win the whole thing, in current form we will come very very close, all it took over the broncos was for Jones to ground the bloody ball and for herbie to select his last pass properly, and the game would of had a very different complexion, however i think that experience is one we needed in order to give the fellas the same feeling that finals football brings with it, big crowds, loud atmosphere and more pressure, that loss could well prove the pivotal point in our season, but if we or more importantly the team get too far ahead of ourselves we could be in for a drop to 11th or 12th over one weekend. One game at a time is what we should be gunning for. The finals will come soon enough but one game at a time

This has been stated a couple of times on this site but I can't find anything that confirms it. For people who claim that Canberra isn't counted as a "city" can I ask the following questions.

What then is the difference between a home region and a home city?
Where have you received the information that Canberra isn't counted as a City?

I remember reading it on the Canberra Times website, which unfortunately I have difficulties searching through older articles.

Well, I just sent an email to the NRL. I will post the response here (if I get one)

Back to the topic, Who else is buying NRL Grand Final tickets tomorrow? I am, and it would be awesome if both the 20's and 1st grade made it to the big day.
